kAzmi designs - Architecture and Interiors Design Concept of a Modern House in Maryland. Clients asked for a new house concept that is unique and modern, which provides a quality of space that is simple, open and comfortable. Design process first step was to study site orientation and most suitable access to the Main Entrance and Garage. Taking full advantage o...f the sun angles and open views, we defined every component of the house as an individual space and its site orientation. Master Bedroom has 9 foot ceiling and windows facing North side for even light, including his and her closets with separate baths. Family room, Kitchen and library are facing South side for direct sun light, oriented along double height curved wall. Corridors of the house provides easy access to all spaces and also separates noise areas such as Garage and Laundry room from quite areas of the house. Main features of the house are the double height curve wall that uniquely divides public spaces versus private spaces of the house, and Exterior Brick wall that filters light and privacy for the Family room. Added features of the house are roof patio on top of a garage, Geo-thermal Heating and Ventilation and reflecting pool.

A Modern designed theme, for a well-known Manhattan Restaurant, Chinese Mirch. There is a unique balance and blend of two worlds, ‘China Wok’ and ‘Indian Spice’ when visiting Chinese Mirch. Client had a clear vision of minimal modern design aesthetics, therefore proposed design carefully selected neutral finishes and c...olors for walls, chairs, tables and millwork. Lighting also creates a mood of a relaxed dining experience, yet highlighting Red and green colors of Mirch (spice/s) through Red gloss patterned wall panels and custom screen artwork. The result is a unique modern design rooted in the traditional environment of Chinese and Indian aesthetics, evoking a feeling of calm and harmonized interiors.

ECHO’S OF LIFE – World Trade Center Memorial Competition.
Participants: Shabbir Kazmi and Suzanne Eason.
One can never forget the tragedy of 9/11 and being in New York City, the sounds of Ambulance and Fire truck sirens, the smell of burning buildings, and uncertainty of the future. Few months after 9/11, I saw an open i...nvitation for a design competition for WTC memorial, and all the 9/11 memories rushed back, like a photo album. On an impulse, I invited my New York designer friend Suzanne Eason to collaborate her design and graphic talents, together to create a unique idea for a memorial. There were total 5,201 entries for the competition, from 63 nations. Our entry was not the winner of the competition, although to my surprise, entering the competition for WTC memorial turned out to be a learning experience, a healing process and one of my proudest moments. You can see our full entry for the competition on exhibition on line: http://www.wtcsitememorial.org/ent/entI= 409336.html
Attached are graphics of the competition and below is a project description.
Project Description:
To grieve the loss of a loved one or friend or a special place of significance happens on many levels of our senses. Our mission was to create a space, a memorial park, using as many of our senses as possible. Therefore, we propose to memorialize all those lives lost through not only sight and touch but also ‘Sound’. The very nature of sound in memory, gave us the inspiration to name our memorial park, ‘Echo’s of Life’. The concept of sounds waves is represented in concentric pavement to actual curvilinear onyx monuments. These monuments are the vehicles that carry the names and remains of all those who perished and they will each whisper the names of the victims with a simple touch activated device. Loved ones who lost their lives on 9/11 are recalled simply by the sight of the names engraved on translucent onyx stone that glows in dark and sounds of their names made audible. It is a powerful affirmation of their existence.

A design collaboration with Shorin-Ryu Karate USA, a Martial Art community in the basement of famous St. Barts Church on Park Avenue of New York City. A design challenge to create a Dojo (a sacred learning hall) that feels traditional but a contemporary space in a 450 sf foot print and 18’-8” ceiling height. An over de...corated design would compromise the available space, and without a design feature would jeopardize the rich history and tradition of Shorin Ryu Karate. The balance was created by 7’-0” X 14’-0” X 6” back lit Shoji screen wall created and built by Michael Mackay, the Shihan (director) of the Karate group. Artificial light behind translucent Shoji screens acts as mystery zen element that is tied with the cabinets, mirrors, and black horizontal wood elements throughout the space.
“The dojo is the sacred place where human spirit is polished”……Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine
Shorin-Ryu Karate USA was founded by Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro (student of Shoshin Nagamine), an Okinawan who arrived on the mainland of the United States on September 15, l962. He passed away on May 7, 2002 and is buried in Locust Valley, NY. Presently there is a network of over 100 Shorin-Ryu Karate dojo in the U.S. which directly trace their roots and heritage to Master Ueshiro or his students.
