Redwood Library and Athenaeum A Costume Party in honor of Miss Jane Stuart, Gilbert Stuart's 12th child and a talented artist in her own right. A mid-19th century fixture in Newport, Jane Stuart loved dressing up and going to costume parties. So join us for some light-hearted fun on Halloween as we throw a costume party in Jane's honor. She love...d gorilla suits, so don one and come on down to the Redwood for dancing with DJ Mark Lapham, costume contest, light fare and cocktails (thanks to Clarke Cooke House for donating wine), spectacular decorations by Aardvark Antiques, and lots of tricks and treats. Proceeds support the great collaborative exhibition of Jane Stuart portraits in Redwood's Van Alen Gallery.
Time:7:30PM Saturday, October 31st

Redwood Library and Athenaeum It took an entire day, but Redwood's portrait statue of George Washington was moved from in front of the historic Harrison building to the south terrace off the Van Alen Gallery. Car emissions and being under the beech trees was taking a toll on the statue, which looks spectacular in its new location on the grounds.
