While at the meeting feel free to explore beyond traditional dialogue. If you have any form of artistic expression you feel is related to "Christmas" and your views on it, i.e. poetry, pictures, song... bring it along.
Considerations for discussion:
Christmas or Xmas?
Was December 25th the day Jesus Christ was born? Does ...it matter?
Can non-Christians celebrate Christmas?
Is Christmas too commercial? Is it a Hallmark holiday?
Is it politically correct to say Merry Christmas to strangers?
Is Santa more popular than Jesus?
In a multicultural, multi-religious country, should Christmas be paraded around in public or should it remain a personal, private celebration?
I never believed in Santa Claus because I knew no white man would be coming into my neighborhood after dark. – Dick Gregory
Christmas is the one time of year when people of all religions come together to worship Jesus Christ. – Bart Simpson
Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. – Calvin Coolidge
I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. – Charles Dickens
Christmas is forced upon a reluctant and disgusted nation by the shopkeepers and the press; on its own merits it would wither and shrivel in the fiery breath of universal hatred. – George Bernard Shaw
I stopped believing in Santa Claus when my mother took me to see him in a department store, and he asked for my autograph. – Shirley Temple
A lovely thing about Christmas is that it's compulsory, like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together. – Garrison Keillor
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exists, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. – Charles Dana (editorial in the New York Sun, 1897, responding to a letter from 8-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon)
The event is free and open to all. Please, come and bring a friend

Working as an interior designer in Greenwich Village during culturally and politically exciting times, Elliot felt empowered by the gay rights movement, but he remained staked to the family business – a dumpy motel called the El Monaco. Upon he...aring that a planned music and arts festival had lost its permit, Elliot called producer Michael Lang at Woodstock Ventures to offer his family’s motel to the promoters and generate some much-needed business. Elliot also introduced Lang to his neighbour Max Yasgur (Eugene Levy), who operated a 600-acre farm down the road. Soon the Woodstock staff was moving into the El Monaco – and half a million people were on their way to Yasgur’s farm for “3 days of Peace & Music in White Lake.” With a little help from his friends, including recently returned Vietnam veteran Billy (Emile Hirsch) and cross-dressing ex-Marine Vilma (Liev Schreiber), and with a little opposition from townspeople, Elliot found himself in a generation-defining experience that would change his life – and popular culture – forever.

Cathy Buchanan who grew up in Niagara Falls and is the author of "The Day The Falls Stood Still" will be at the Victoria Avenue Library on Saturday November 7th at 2 pm. She will read from her book and present a slide show. "The Day the Falls Stood Still" is set in Niagara Falls in 1915, and the male character centra...l to the plot was inspired by local hero, William “Red” Hill, Niagara’s most famous riverman.
Much of Cathy's research was done right here in the Niagara Falls Public Library, she comments "The text on the cover of "The Day the Falls Stood Still" reads “Steeped in the intriguing history of Niagara Falls, this is an epic love story as rich, spellbinding and majestic as the falls themselves.” Any reader who finds the statement the tiniest bit true should know that without the Niagara Falls (Ontario) Public Library, The Day the Falls Stood Still would have been a lesser book."

"The Internet is based on a layered, end-to-end model that allows people at each level of the network to innovate free of any central control. By placing intelligence at the edges rather than control in the middle of the network, the Internet has created a platform for innovation."
Vinton Cerf
