Since it was founded in 1996, nicholasleichterdance has performed in over 50 cities in 16 states and 10 countries at venues including the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House with the Brooklyn Philharmonic; Evening Stars; Central Park Summerstage; The New Victory Theater; Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors; The Whitney Museum at Altria; Theater Aegi in Hanover, Germany; Bennington College, VT; The Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA; Connecticut College; Dance Place, D.C.; the Fabuleus International Youth Theater Festival in Leuven, Belgium; ODC in San Francisco; University of Iowa; Modlin Center for the Performing Arts at University of Richmond; The Duke on 42nd Street; Kaohsiung Jazz Dance Congress, Taiwan; Velocity Dance Center in Seattle; Celebrate Brooklyn; The Dorothy H. Baker Theater at Muhlenberg College, PA; Reynolds Industries Theater at Duke University; Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville, NC; Tangente in Montréal; and Freedance in Ukraine.

Nicholas Leichter (Artistic Director) received a BA in dance from Connecticut College where he studied with Jacylnn Villamil and Martha Myers. He was a member of Ralph Lemon Company from 1993 – 1995, has performed with the companies of Jennifer Muller, Ronald K. Brown, and Gus Solomons jr, and regularly appears in the work of Clare Byrne. He has taught throughout the United States, at festivals in Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, and Canada, and he has been on faculty at Tisch School of the Arts and the American Dance Festival. Leichter’s work and company have received support and commissions from TIAA-CREF, The Harkness Foundation for Dance, NYFA, Jerome Foundation, The Greenwall Foundation, National College Choreographic Initiative, 92nd Street Y New Works in Dance Fund, The Joyce Theater Foundation, NYC, with major support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, NYSCA, and the NEA. Leichter has been artist-in-residence/guest artist at many institutions including Sarah Lawrence College, U of Iowa, U of Richmond, GWU, U of Houston, Adage School for the Performing Arts in Modesto, Velocity Dance Center in Seattle, Muhlenberg College, & Idaho State U.
