It isn't a matter that the government can stay out of. There are three branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial. Two out of three are manipulated by the electorate (and vice versa). There is an equal protection issue here that can not be overridden by the electorate if that is where hope of equality has stalled for now as it has ... Read Morein some states. Our executive is liberal minded. The high court with Ms. Sotomayor is likely to get it what the issue is and make a good decision. Who will feed the test case to them remains to be seen. There are protections for minorities. There is still a reasonable expectation of privacy. The very ones who are against this would scream it was against their rights as Americans if they were told they couldn't marry the person they chose as their mate. I am so proud of my son, who is this very moment in Maine campaigning for Equality in Maine.
