Michael Spires, the research development specialist for the mathematical and physical sciences, will make a presentation on the National Science Foundation (agency basics, 2010 funding outlook, recent and forthcoming policy changes, and some basic grant-writing) this Thursday, November 5, at 1 p.m. in Faraday Hall West 300. All are welcome to attend.

Sure, good ideas are an essential ingredient of any external grant proposal, but however necessary, they're not enough to ensure you'll get the money. To stand a fighting chance, the ideas in your project must be both good and well positioned relative to other grant proposals.
