This talk will focus on learning behavioral and parenting strategies which are helpful in managing the behavior problems of all children, with a specific focus on the unique needs of children with Down syndrome. The over-arching theme of this talk will be to enhance parents' un...derstanding of their child's developmental level and how this impacts behavior and informs which behavioral and parenting strategies will be most effective. Techniques which are based on the latest research and standards of practice will be reviewed in a practical and accessible manner. Additional resources will also be discussed so that parents may learn more about the topics covered.
Dr. David Stein is an Advanced Post-Doctoral Fellow in Pediatric Psychology at the Developmental Medicine Center of Children's Hospital, Boston. Dr. Stein is a graduate of Tufts University who attained his doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Stein completed his pre- and post-doctoral training in child psychology through Harvard Medical School at the Cambridge Hospital and Children's Hospital, Boston. He has worked extensively with children in school systems, a residential treatment center, and hospitals. Dr. Stein is trained in behavioral treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral medicine. He is specializing in work with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities through his fellowship at the Developmental Medicine Center.Read More
