Namaste, Sanjay...........your Everest link is going to be wonder-filled!! I love the Kathmandu images.....great sadhus! In fact, the sadhu on the right in all three images looks SO very much like one of 'my' sadhus in Jaisalmer, who must have moved quickly, or has a twin brother!!! No viruses or spies....!!!
Have... glorious travels - may each day be filled with magical, unique experiences....I'll tune in tomorrow!
Happy trails to you and your fellow travelers!!!Read More

Greetings to all who browse Destination Himalaya's page....from someone who has been traveling under Sanjay's aegis for more than a decade...India, Bhutan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Tibet, Cambodia. Sanjay's the best in the business, affirmed by Conde Nast Traveler - which has awarded him its Top Travel Speciali...st in South Asia for the last 6 (or is it 7 - lost count!) consecutive years!! I'm blessed to travel in So. Asia for 2 months or more each year - every day brings wonder-filled experiences, with never a hiccup in my itineraries. I'm looking forward to more travel adventures towards the end of this year - my annual fulfilment!! As a photographer, I delight in my own private itinerary - flexibility, and being able to spend extra time where necessary; one such example, in Sri Lanka - at the Elephant Orphanage, Pinnawela. My lovely friend & guide, Seelan, said that the average visitor spends a mere hour or so there...I stayed most of the day!Read More

James Brundige I'm a fan! I'm also a facebook rookie. What does fan-dom do?

Destination Himalaya We arrived in Manigango on the second day of their annual three day gathering. There was a festive air about this very remote town, everyone was out dressed in their Sunday best.

Destination Himalaya
“Zeus, the father of the Olympic Gods,
turned mid-day into night,
hiding the light of the dazzling Sun,
and sore fear came upon men.”
Archilochus (c680 – c640 BC)
Throughout history one can find references to a lunar or solar eclipse with great fear and portends for great evil to come. For these were times when the scien...ce of gravity and the Solar System were still unknown and a Total Solar Eclipse was rare.
In today’s world of modern transportation and relatively open borders, we do not have to wait a lifetime to see an eclipse. For today, we can travel to where ever totality beckons us – and this year it was to China. I have been an eclipse chaser for two decades and this year found me in Kham, China waiting with a few friends for the Shadow of the Moon to pass over us. The images of the partial eclipse are from our sighting on July 22, 2009 and totality is from a previous eclipse that I photographed using 25ASA Kodachrome film. Here are some images from our sighting.
