Music and Movement of Newton http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=97320958 Listen to (or read) Brian Eno's "This I Believe" article about why singing in a group is so important! "I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightene...d sexual attractiveness and a better sense of humor. . . So I believe in singing to such an extent that if I were asked to redesign the British educational system, I would start by insisting that group singing become a central part of the daily routine. I believe it builds character and, more than anything else, encourages a taste for co-operation with others. This seems to be about the most important thing a school could do for you."

When choosing an instrument, Nagelbach suggests letting the child take the lead. "An instrument should resonate with them, and usually a child knows right away whether they like the flute or the tru...mpet. And it's not too difficult to switch if a child finds out they don't like an instrument. The lessons and work are not lost, so don't stress.
Musical skills are transferable."

Music and Movement of Newton Spanish Music Together: Coming this fall, the most recent addition to our Music Together offerings: bilingual teacher Maddie Welch will teach Musica Juntos en Espanol! Spanish Music Together uses the same Bongos CD and songbook that all Music Together families are using this fall, with supplemental culturally-appropria...te songs in class and on your iPod/computer. Maddie plays guitar and piano and sings gorgeously (you can hear her on our own summer CD). Equally fluent in Spanish and English, she has taught bilingual preschool for years, as well as theatre and preschool music. She has brought her own bilingual children to Music Together all their lives. Families in Maddie’s classes will receive supplemental songbook commentary materials in Spanish. This class is ideal for families with a Spanish-speaking parent or nanny, or raising a child bilingually. This class is also priceless for those who want to give their family’s beginner Spanish-learning career a jumpstart.
