Piped music has been used to ease anxiety before operations, and harp music to reduce pain after surgery, with some research suggesting it can be as effective as the sedative Valium.

Music and Movement of Newton Also new this fall: Jewish Music Together uses the same CD and songbook that all Music Together families are using this semester, with supplemental culturally-appropriate songs in class and on your iPod/computer. Supplemental songs and dances will be drawn from the multiple varieties of Jewish experience, including Heb...rew, Yiddish, and Judaeo-Espanol; Ashkenaz, Sepharad, and the American Jewish experience. Your teacher, Julia Priest, director of Music and Movement of Newton, has studied Cantorial Arts at Hebrew College and has been leading music in synagogues for over 15 years, including most recently family Tot Shabbats at Temple Emanuel in Newton and Temple Beth Shalom in Needham. She also provides music and movement classes at four Jewish preschools.
