Nyaka AIDS Foundation Grandmother Alice speaks on her life story. Many of these subjects she talks about are extremely taboo for people to discuss openly. Alice agreed to talk on camera about her place in the community and openly disclose that she is HIV + for all to see her struggles, dignity, and strength. She also wanted to show every...one how much she loves Nyaka. Alice lives a 5 minutes walk from the Nyaka School. One of her children- Vastine [http://bit.ly/7I8Cb1]- attends the Nyaka School.

Nyaka AIDS Foundation Lyn discusses what she learned (in mind and heart) from the Watoto Children's Choir- a group of kids motivated by the loss of their parents to HIV raising awareness through song and dance around the world. Watch a video of the Watoto Children's Choir and read Lyn's thoughts.

It's overwhelming really. AIDS is a pandemic ofcolossal proportion. And globally, women and girls are affected disproportionately. For those of us in Canada living a middle class or privileged life, the AIDS crisis can seem like a distant tale, happening in another galaxy - not in ours. ...

Nyaka AIDS Foundation We end each school year in Nov. with vocational training for our P7 students. Imparting meaningful working skills to our young adults is one of the most effective ways of preparing them for the world. Soon we'll be teaching them computer skills at the blue Lupin Library! http://bit.ly/59hEOL

Nyaka AIDS Foundation In Dec 2009 Nyaka will have its 2nd graduating class. Time sure passes quickly. You've seen our 2008 graduates but you haven't seen the lovely faces of our 2009 graduates. Each of these students, like their former pioneering class, needs a scholarship to be able to attend secondary school. That's $500 for housing,... bedding, clothing, food, books, Secondary School fees, writing materials, and workbooks for a whole year! A priceless present for a student who otherwise wouldn't attend high school.

Nyaka AIDS Foundation On Nov. 18th Nyaka held a voluntary HIV/AIDS counseling/testing session for 94 grandmothers, mothers, and their children who had never received such sensitization and testing services before. Everyone consented to testing and everyone walked away with hope, knowledge, and the truth about their circumstances in their h...ands. We are planning more of these voluntary counseling/testing sessions for vulnerable women, grannies, and their orphans in the future.
