OER Africa
OER Africa gave a keynote address on ‘OER in developing countries’ at
the Open Learning Conference held at the Learning and Conference
Centre, Nottingham, on the 25 November 2009. The
focus of this address was that OER presents an opportunity to overhaul
how we think about and practice higher education - and how education... as
a collaborative endeavour - a cornerstone of the OER movement - is far
more likely to result in success than going it alone. Click here - http://www.oerafrica.org/Home/OEREvents/ OERAfricaEvents/tabid/1348/Default.aspx to download the keynote address and the supporting powerpoint slides.

Copyright and licensing issues are at the heart of OER as they have
important implications for creators, for users and, for their
institutions. Not surprisingly, then, these issues permeate discussion
and debate on the creation and reuse of OER. OER Africa has put together a copyright and licensing toolkit which provides ...an
overview of copyright and alternatives to copyright licensing. Visit this space here - http://www.oerafrica.org/CopyrightandLic ensing/tabid/358/Default.aspx

UNESCO has released a report on Access to OER and this report is
a synthesis of a discussion that took place in early 2009 discussing access and constraints to OERs. One of the aims of the discussion was to stimulate further work in this area by formulating concrete proposals. Two such proposals have emerged from this d...iscussion:
1. Introducing digital Open Education Resources Into Zambian primary schools through school-based professional development.
2. Continued engagement through the UK National Commission for UNESCO. A first meeting will take place on 25th/26th November in conjunction with the Nottingham Open Learning Conference and in conjunction with OER Africa.” Click here to download the resource - http://www.oerafrica.org/understandingoe r/ResourcesonOER/tabid/356/mctl/Details/ id/36698/Default.aspx

Fiona OER Africa will be a valuable resource and link for the African Centre for Childhood (ACC). The ACC aims to develop freely available education resources for people working with vulnerable children in Africa. We will certainly be putting a link to OER Africa when our new website goes up next month.

We have just had a wonderful two day workshop to conceptualise a Teacher Education Space on OER Africa - with resources to help teacher educators plan and deliver
teacher education programmes and courses, and a network of people involved
with teacher education in Africa.

OER Africa OER Africa has set up a 'Using Technology' space to function as a one-stop shop for materials that an African university can use to understand educational technology and requirements for its successful use within a university. This space has materials and guides aimed at overcoming institutional barriers and deploying ...educational technologies in Higher Education institutions. Users can engage with case studies to learn how successfully to deploy educational technologies in their institution.
