OSU (Oregon) Master Gardener Program Fantastic article in the Oregonian about the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse garden - a garden that is strongly championed and supported by Lincoln County Master Gardeners. Anyone who doubts that they can grow food in their backyard should see what comes out of this garden - right on the ocean and subject to salt, winds, and nutrient poor soils. The harvest is bountiful and the kids and Master Gardeners are true gems.

OSU (Oregon) Master Gardener Program At a time when Extension is challenged by state (and sometimes local) budgets, it is nice to remember that the President of OSU strongly supports Extension. In 2009, the Master Gardener Program was prominently mentioned in the President's University Day speech. In this undated video (likely around circa 2006-2007), President Ray comments on Extension successes in 4-H.

OSU (Oregon) Master Gardener Program Spotted Wing Drosophila found in berries, grapes and tree fruits. Oregon Master Gardeners should expect to see more samples of this pest in Plant Clinic as the growing season winds down - and into next season. It may be a challenging 2010 season for Oregon's commercial fruit growers.
