Too bad .. It seems VH1's ability to turn autism into a name-recognition ad campaign has run out of steam, back in Dec'08 .. I wonder if they will take up the cause again anytime soon, or involve rock for autistic rock fans (See "The Quiet Concert" facebook thread)

Official VH1 Classic Rock Autism Campaign Check out highlights from the VH1 Classic Rock Autism Celebrity Bowl-Off, which took place on November 13, 2008 at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood, CA. Rock stars, athletes, and celebrities all turned out to support the cause, and proceeds from the event went to 3 great autism organizations: hollyrod4kids, Act Today!, and The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

"VH1 Classic Rock Autism Celebrity Bowl Off" Actors, celebrities and members of the music industry will take to the lanes and showcase their bowling skills to raise awareness for autism in VH1 Classic's Rock Autism Celebrity Bowl-Off. The evening will be hosted by Dave Navarro along with actress Holly Robinson Peete an...d former NFL Quarterback Rodney Peete and will include both a Live & Silent auction with rare rock-n-roll photography from legendary photographers Jim Marshall & Richard E. Aaron, music, food, drinks and Rock Band video game.

VH1 Classic's Rock Autism campaign is designed to help educate parents and build awareness about autism and to raise funds for a variety of autism research, advocacy and support organizations.

General Admission Tickets are $150.00; Sponsor a Bowling Lane and bowl with Rock Star for $5,000.00 (Confirmed Rock Star Bowlers include but not limited to Dave Navarro, Billy Morrison, Meat Loaf, Lukas Rossi, Matt Sorum, Donovan Leitch Jr, Pearl Aday, Stephen Pearcy and more...)

Thursday November 13, 2008 from 7-10pm. We are inviting some of the BIGGEST names in entertainment to bowl like a rock star at Lucky Strike Lanes at Hollywood and Highland.

Proceeds from the event will benefit three Autism organizations: ACT Today!, HollyRod4Kids, and Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.

At this year's VH1 Rock Honors show on July 12, 2008, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips, Incubus, and Tenacious D all paid tribute to the legendary rock band The Who with electrifying performances. The Who later took the stage themselves for an unforgettable set of their own. On May 10, 2008, VH1 Classic once again joined with the New York Mets for their annual Autism Awareness Day at Shea Stadium. This year, VH1 Classic brought in The Smithereens to perform a few of their hit songs prior to the game, when the NY Mets took on the Cincinnati Reds. One lucky row also received VH1 Classic Rock... Official VH1 Classic Rock Autism Campaign On April 29, 2008, to mark the end of Autism Awareness Month, rocker Sebastian Bach stopped by the VH1 Classic offices to help us present a check to the Autism Society of America for $10,000.00. This represents a portion of the proceeds from the sales of our Rock Autism t-shirts. Thanks to everyone who purchased one and helped us make this happen!

Official VH1 Classic Rock Autism Campaign In July of 2007, rock legends Dee Snider and Jay Jay French of Twisted Sister were on hand along with VH1 Classic and Razor and Tie Entertainment executives to present a check to Autism Speaks worth more than $17,000. The check represents the proceeds from Twisted Sister’s A TWISTED CHRISTMAS, the rockin’ holiday album that enamored both critics and fans alike.

Official VH1 Classic Rock Autism Campaign In 2007, VH1 Classic teamed up with legendary rock bands Def Leppard and Journey to auction off a one-of-a-kind autographed motorbike designed by world renowned motorcycle maker Arlen Ness Motorcycles. One lucky fan walked away with a piece of music history, while proceeds from the sale of this incredible riding machine went to benefit autism awareness and research.
