Ohio Farm Bureau members are digging in for more livestock care battles. Do not underestimate what you have accomplished, OFBF Exec. Vice President Jack Fisher told the members during the Dec. 2-4 annual meeting, but, likewise, do not underestimate the job ahead.

They're giving the same arguments I heard in the debate over Issue 2. I don't have any idea about farming; therefore, I'm not qualified to have an opinion about how best to care for livestock.

If they want a fight, it looks like they're going to get one. It's really too bad that they feel they have to be confrontational instead of engaging in honest dialogue.

yes it's more polarization and fear-mongering in the name of getting more $ for farm bureau lobbying. Demonization of sustainable farm advocates as either mis-informed or outsiders. Ohio can be less parochial, beginning with its farmers and farm organizations. Thanks, OEFFA for showing us there is a better way.

Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association Did you know that just a handful of companies determine what kind of food you can buy and how farmers can produce it? It's true. For example, more than 85% of U.S. beef cattle are slaughtered by just 4 companies and 1 company controls 40% of the milk supply. The USDA and Dept. of Justice will be holding hearings to inv...estigate the lack of competition in agriculture. Tell them what you think!

A really scary one is Monsanto's control of about 90% of the seed business. That includes vegetable seeds, not just corn and soybeans. We need to work doubly hard to preserve the genetic diversity of our crops!

Fortunately, the DOJ is also investigating Monsanto. But the situation probably won't really change for the better unless we can get the Supreme Court to reverse their decision that allows life forms to be patented.

What about the other two ag giants, Con-Agra and ADM? Don't they control chunks of the seed market?

The Monsanto case is mostly being brought to open up GMO to more companies, who want in on the action. I don't think anybody cares about who owns all the vegetables seeds. Except us, of course.
