Nestled on a corner in Oak Cliff, is a piece of history one preservationist worries is in danger of becoming part of the past.

I wish this church could become a charter school with a unique mission that successfully educated Dallas /OC kids. That would be a pretty good legacy, all things considered.

Thanks for the update. I sent an email to Mr. Garza last week and will send my same message to the other board members as well. No response from Mr. Garza's office so I hope that means he was overwhelmed by all the emails on the subject!!!

So stunning. It's a shame it's the only one left on Ross when Ross used to be lined with them from Greenville all the way through downtown. I think this one and the Belo mansion are the only 2 left.

I thought there were like 8 left. No matter, it is beautiful and I hope it's around for future generations to appreciate.

Old Oak Cliff Conservation League From Oak Cliff Blog: UPDATE: DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander said Thursday that the district is still in the process of purchasing property for the new campus. He said a time schedule for any demolition would be determined after the needed properties are acquired. I am disappointed to live in a city that does not value its history. Just because a building is old or past its prime does not mean it no longer has value to the community in which it exists.

I remember in school kids asked why we needed to study history. Teachers said we always learn something from the past and that history is important and ... See Moreshould be valued. I wonder what kids think today when they see our leaders showing complete disregard for the history of the city for which they serve.

I once read in a joke book about Texas that they tear the whole city down and rebuild it every 10 years. It's a shame, and I wish you all the best in protecting this landmark. Is there a way to get historical building status?

Jana - The building is now owned by the school district. It is much more difficult to landmark a building if the owner objects. It can be done but it is difficult.

Contact your DISD school board trustee. Contact your council representative. Write a letter to the paper. And if none of this sounds doable, just drive by the building. You will be struck by the beauty of this building and you will be motivated.
