Announcement: I'm reaching out to you on behalf of DoSomething.org, the nation’s largest organizations for and funders of young social entrepreneurs. Our largest grant program, The Do Something Awards, might be a good fit for The Freechild Project community particularly the young leaders.

The Do Something Awards (forme...rly the BR!CK Awards) identifies exceptional young social entrepreneurs, activists and community leaders who have significantly changed the world. For 2010, five winners will be selected. Each will receive a minimum of $10,000 and one of those five will be selected to win the Grand Prize total of $100,000.

I hope you'll help me share this opportunity with the members of your organization. Even better, you can recommend people for the award by filling out a simple nomination form at www.dosomething.org/awards. Quantity of applications is not a concern. Rather, we want to identify the "best-in-class" activists, leaders, and social entrepreneurs age 25 and under. Applicants must be citizens or residents of the U.S. or Canada and must apply by December 15th, 2009, although applying earlier is strongly encouraged.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions or thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you. Esmeralda Baltazar

Ridiculous - when I was in school, we all carried pocket knives, and I can't recall a single injury that resulted. But forcing every kids to play sports, whether or not they showed any aptitude for it, caused plenty of injuries!

Geneva, I'm afraid the story here is the way Mike Males tells it: In the past society saw young people as the future; today society sees young people as a waste. The reality is that YOUTH ARE OUR ONLY HOPE, forks, spoons, and all that. We have to work together to foster that hope and encourage social change that will change society's attitudes - TODAY!
