Once a choice of new options are put in front of users, most, if they do not maintain the status quo, will look at the field of choices, not restricting themselves to a single choice presented them (once you are told that you have to take a new ... See Moreroute, rather than continue along your daily route, one tends to look at the map again, and to talk with fellow travelers to find out which is the safest route to take. If the travelers say they can still proceed along the old tried and tested route, that's the way they will proceed, but if they are told that there are several routes that can get you there in the same safety and reliability, then travelers will tend to experiment with the new options, prefereng to experience the change in scenery, to see whatit is that they have missed by regular travels along their old route. For this reason, the instant that Microsoft released Vista (a route described by Microsoft, and perceived by travelers, as all new and different, all the choices became viable - and as long as Microsoft kept open the Windows XP route, most travelers perceived it as the safest route to stick with.
But add to this change of route, a change in travel mode - a switch from what has been recognized as an accepted OS, to a new component that is sold as an OS, and that opens all the routes for review, and remapping.
