Orion Magazine Amazing story (and interesting that it appeared in the WSJ).

It has been 20 years since the Berlin Wall fell. But deep in the forest here, a red deer called Ahornia still refuses to cross the old Iron Curtain.

Not to mention all the land that is required to feed them, keep the animals grazing (or sitting in huge nasty feed lots)--we can feed more people, preserve more wildlife habitat, more carbon sequestration, and be less cruel if we reduce our carnivorous-ness :-),

Why make this about people? We are all the same genus and species, and there are too many of us.

Buddhists call this Dependent Origination. It's not a new concept, but one that Western Culture has assiduously resisted for a couple of thousand years.

The next Great Barrington Green Drinks is Wednesday, November 4th, at Route 7 Grill, from 5:15 on.

This edition of Drinks features the work of Co-Act, an energetic grassroots group that is working to capture and redistribute the waste food stream in the region, develop renewable energy, as well as local economics. Come ...down and find out about their recent successes and new projects that you can plug into.

What exactly is Green Drinks, you may ask? Well, it's a monthly social event hosted by the folks who publish Orion magazine, for people like you interested in everything from environmental education to local agriculture, the arts, green business & design, and the ways all of these intersect.

As always there will be deliciously free d'oeuvres, courtesy of our lovely/handsome Route 7 hosts, and copies of the new issue of Orion magazine for your enjoyment.

So grab a friend and bring them down to share what you're working on and meet others active in the community.

Please forward this on to your friends and Facebook contacts...the more the merrier.

Erik

Orion, WOW! I thank you for sending me your updates, free, via email for years now. I confess I have, a few times, signed up as a subscriber, knowing that I couldn't afford you. I did so for the joy of holding your sample issue in my hands, peering into your photography, and setting my dreams for the night as I fe...ll asleep. Now, I will share you w/my friends here. When I am well, I will skip in from the mailbox with you again, only without the feeling guilty part.Read More
