Daniele Marano

Daniele Marano Dear Orrin Keepnews, I have a lot of record by Riverside, Milestone etc.
and I'd call you more questions about Monk, Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Elvin Jones, Wes Montgomery, McCoy Tyner.
I want to know all of him because I Love Jazz Music and I Love this great musicians.
When I bought Brilliant Corner nine uears ago, I ...listened to Pannonica the celesta's sound and when I bought Trident two years ago by McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Ron Carter, I listened d to the celesta's sound again.
Just was the same instruments played by Monk on Brilliant Corner?
This celesta is also in your recording study?
Could I see a photo?

Thank you so Much

Morgan

Morgan Dear Mr. Keepnews. May I respectfully ask how you recorded Ray Barretto? Whilst I'm aware that the greater part of a good recording is down to the performance there's something about the sound (like a report from a shotgun) that you achieved I've never even got close to. Hope you don't mind me asking but we are tearing... our hair out here in the UK. Thanks for the music.x

Dear Morgan Pugh: In reviewing some old correspondence, I am embarrassed to realize that I never answered your JUNE request for inside information on how I recorded Ray Barretto. It is even more disturbing to have to admit that I am not aware of either myself or the recording engineer on our dates (usually Jack Higgins) having consciously done ... See Moreanything unique. I am aware that Ray did a lot of session work for Prestige, much of which sounds to me like what we accomplished, so possibly Rudy Van Gelder might have something of value to tell you. But I really suspect that Ray's personal approach was the main ingredient -- and, unfortunately, he died some years ago, so we can't ask him.

Merrilee The World is waiting for your memoirs. Several of us reminded you of that on this page, but our comments have disappeared. I remember seeing Valerie Bishop, Miss Kitty, Terri and Dennis Deja, among others. Have you begun writing? This is too important to put on the back burner. What can we do to inspire you?

I just finished Orrin's Jazz Record Production class and recommend it highly! Don't overlook this one! An important class - both in terms of priceless oral jazz history and practical techniques of record production and running indie jazz labels.

Hi Orrin; did you know or ever meet Gene Deitch? He did so many great covers for The Record Changer. He made a drawing for me several years ago; great guy. He's got to be 90 or so at this time.
