Weiyuan

Weiyuan Hi Phil, I bought the book in the States and brought it with me to Switzerland. I read it in one day- not only because some stories are already familiar to me, but because it is absolutely riveting. P.S. I loved the new cover!

Gustavo Nogueira

Gustavo Nogueira Just finished reading the book. It left such a deep impression on me that I hurried to the internet to read more about it - and found this FB page. Fascinanting and enlightening account of life in today's China. It's approach, centering on the stories of a few selected people who try to make a difference, makes it part...icularly resonating. At the very least, it has certainly added some "off the beaten track" attractions to my next trip to China, like the Cultural Revolution cemetery in Chongqing!

Joseph Kruzich

Joseph Kruzich This is a very good book and highly recommended. In reading this you find inspiration for the cause of reform in China, and the number of brave Chinese that are fighting for it in their daily lifes. China is a very complex country and this book captures all of that complexity and doesn't reduce all of the challenges f...acing China and its people to black and white frameworks, which happens all too often in the discussions about China.

Very astute observations. China is too complex to be reduced to one-word descriptions like "friend" or "enemy" or "communist," etc...

Right. Much better when the oppression is done by state owned capitalists in "communist" guise.

Oh wait! That's what's going on in China now!

Eliseo Hello,

I am an italian student and I would like to translate some passages taken from the book "Out of Mao's shadow" by Philip P.Pan from English to Italian for my final exam. That's the reason why I need to know if the translation rights have already been sold in Italy. I must add that I don't intend to do it for mon...ey.There is someone here that could help me?

Thank you
