Like many of you, I read a lot of blogs. And also like many of you, I read a variety of them. Today, I was reading a blog by Jonathan Golden who is the founder of "Land of 1000 Hills Coffee" which I could talk a bunch of what makes them special, but I will let you click on the link and found out for yourself. I am n...ow also working from their coffee shop every Thursday in beautiful Historic Roswell, GA. ANYWHO...... Jonathan posted a new blog, in which, at the end were two sentences that really stood out to me and spoke to me. Maybe they will encourage you as well.

Lately, we have all been bombarded with new upstart non-profits/charities, all of them with great intentions and bound to do some good work. If you are like me - it's tough to figure out whats what and which one I should get behind, etc etc. Let me introduce a new company to you. This Shirt Changes Lives is the brai...nchild of my buddies Mike Lewis and Bill Power.
Both guys have been involved in my life in one way or another for the past 15 years. Bill used to be my boss, and is now one of my best friends in the world. Mike was in a rock band, and always treated me with respect and kindness and has just loved on me since we met back in the day. Mike went over to Kenya this past year and the trip truly turned his life upside down. Long story short - he came back and couldn't stop thinking about what he has witnessed on his trip and had to figure out a way he could make a difference.
He teamed up with Bill and they have created this company. Nothing revolutionary, nothing mind blowing - just shirts. For every shirt that is bought - $5.00 goes to a charity that empowers people in Kenya. As I said, nothing mind blowing. I just love the people behind it and want to help them make a difference any way I can. They just put up their first shirt - which rules - I need to save my cashola and buy one for the wife and I.
OH, and coming up, if you are a t-shirt company, band, whatever - they will soon have BLANKS they you can buy that the profits will also go to a charity. I have seen the prototypes and they are pretty much just like American Apparel, so just wait - wouldn't you rather buy blank shirts that support a good cuase then a guy that is WAY fishy and advertise with border line porn? Just saying....

So, as you know, we suck at keeping secrets around here. So you may or may not know that we signed a new artist named Andy Zipf! We could tell you how awesome he is and how stoked we are to be working with him and all that, but thats pretty obvious right? So, we have just released a 4 song EP from Andy called "Our V...oice Is A Weapon" and you can buy it anywhere you buy your digital music, like iTunes or Amazon. Its only 2.99, and would mean a lot to us if you took a second to list to Andy. Anyways, we sent out this press release yesterday.

Andy Zipf has put together a fine set of songs for an October 13th EP release, via indie label P is for Panda, entitled Our Voice is a Weapon. The Washington, D.C. area native may be new to some, but his music is nothing shy of road-tested, and his reputation precedes this (his seventh) release…

Zipf has played live in 37 different states, with over 400 shows in the last couple of years. He averages around 120 shows each year, and has played with many fan favorites. He's shared the stage with artists like Cold War Kids, Jeremy Enigk, Badly Drawn Boy, Rosie Thomas and Dave Bazan just to name a few.
Andy Zipf has embraced the digital world, and mastered the balancing act of being an independent musician. He has struggled, and seen successes, and continuously gives away music for free. His previous EP, The Coward’s Choir, sells on his website for “whatever you are willing to pay for it.”
About the ongoing changes in music, Andy wrote to his fans:
“the music industry is in quite a transitional period … With your help, I've adapted and changed with the tide as best I know how. It's not been easy, but you've supported me all the way. Thank you.”
And Mr. Zipf has enjoyed extraordinary fan support so far. He was humbled when fans and friends (Andy calls them his "Pfriends") raised over $45,000 for him to record his album The Long Tail. He recorded the songs in Los Angeles and with the production help of James Barber (Ryan Adams, Hole, Guns N Roses). With the final product, Zipf wanted to show fans his gratitude by giving the music away. Most of the fans turned around and donated money right back, helping Andy with the costs of being on tour.
Zipf played the "artists in residence" series at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, and has attracted the attention of The Today Show, XM Satellite Radio, VH1 and MTV. He also won a contest with Paste Magazine and Philadelphia’s WXPN, earning the chance to play live and participate in an on-air interview with David Dye, the host of WXPN’s acclaimed show “World Café Live”.
The next Andy Zipf release with P is For Panda will be a Christmas EP. Look out for that this winter; it will be a six-song gem comprised of one original, two carols, and three hymns.
