Judy Huling-Cadieux My daughter just had surgery a week ago, for a 6 x 5 x 6 cm tumor on her cerebellum...I would love to hear from ANYONE who's child has gone thru this, what treatment options are out there and what ever infomation you can give me. The surgeon says' he feels he got it all...BUT there was a little area that he didn't get..., and now they feel we just have to watch and wait. I have to make an appointment on Monday for a follow up at the Onolocologist...I've read so many diffrent things...she has JPA...she presented with Horrible headaches and vomiting...ataxia(even after her surgery) I really am glad I found your site...Please any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, how often have you all seen that these darn things come back? Our world has been turned upside down...looking for any info...Thank you!!

HI Judy, I am sorry to hear about your daughter's tumor. My daughter (who is now 6) had a JPA in her cerebellum at age 2. The tumor was the size of a golf ball, but was operable. It took 2 surgeries to remove the tumor and from what I learned 4 years ago, this is not uncommon. It was a difficult time for us (especially me). My daughter... See More's prognosis is good. She required 1 year PT and still has balance issues (especially when she is tired). We still saw vomitting after the first surgery (because there was still tumor left). The first year after surgery, she continued to vomit on occasion. When we fly, she vomits (til this age). I don't know all the answers, but I know it is a very difficult time. Feel free stay in contact and my thoughts are with you.

Kathy

Kathy My daughter was diagnosed with hypothylamic low-grade astrocytoma in June of 05 when she was 16 months old. She had 70 weeks of chemo. which shrunk the tumor about .5 cm. The tumor was quiet with no growth for aobut 2.5 yeas following the completion of treatment. Recently, this past July her MRI showed some new growth.... We followed up with another MRI one month later that showed no addtional growth since the previous scan. So now we are back to MRI's every few months and watching more closely for any addtional changes. We are hoping that this little burst of growth is a one time deal and that the tumor is quiet again now. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Hyrum

Hyrum My 3 year old daughter had an MRI today which revealed a Brain Stem Astrocytoma. We are meeting with a pediatric oncologist tomorrow to begin discussion of the best course of treatment. The radiologist MRI doctor told us that it was not operable becaause it is on the brain stem. I don't know what to do right now, bu...t I can't sit back and do nothing. I am researching as much as I can and as fast as i can to find out more about astrocytoma's in young children. Can anyone tell me what mortality rates are? Where can I find more information? What should i be asking the doctor?
