Florida Hospital Flagler announced that on Monday, October 26, the Palm Coast Surgery Center, located adjacent to the Florida Hospital Flagler campus, will operate as a department of the hospital.
“We are excited by this merger,” said David Ottati, Florida Hospital Flagler CEO. “By absorbing this 15,000 square-foot sur...gery center, we will increase our surgical capacity by approximately 40%; something we need to do as we continue to grow.”
The hospital currently has six operating rooms and two gastroenterology suites and had planned on adding additional surgical space. With the merger, the hospital will now have 10 operating suites, four gastroenterology suites and two procedure rooms and will scrap its surgical space expansion plans.
“Over the past several years, Florida Hospital Flagler has recruited multiple surgeons as we actively address the community’s needs,” Ottati said. “We had begun to reach our operating room capacity and knew we would need to develop more operating space within the next two years.”
“I believe the Surgery Center will allow the surgeons to be more efficient with their operating time, as well as help the hospital with its capacity needs,” said Orthopaedic Surgeon and former Chief of Staff, John Russell, MD. “The Surgery Center was designed by surgeons and has an efficient and intentional layout.”
For several years the owners of the surgery center and the hospital have discussed different ways to partner, but had not reached an agreement until now.
“Both the physicians and the hospital have decided that working together will benefit the community much more than working separately,” indicated Terry Regan, MD, Urologist and incoming Chief of Staff.
Ottati agrees. “This is another step of our healthcare community working closer together to improve healthcare services in Flagler County,” he said.
