PalmettoPride There are 51.2 billion pieces of litter on roadways nationwide. The majority of that (91%) consist of mainly cigarette butts and paper. That translates into 6,729 pieces of litter per mile of roadway.

Competition
We are looking for
original full-length, anti-litter themed
plays written by South Carolina middle and high school students for young
audiences. One first place prize of $500 and 45 second place prizes of $100
will be awarded. All prizes will be awarded as gift cards to be used at... winning
group/persons discretion. In addition to the monetary prize, winning
playwrights will have an opportunity to have their play performed by schools and
civic theatre troupes throughout South Carolina! This competition is open to
all South Carolina public, private, charter and home school students.

Columbia(WLTX) - To kick off their "Go-Green Awareness Campaign," Piggly Wiggly on Devine Street in Columbia hosted a Recycle Shopping Spree.
PalmettoPride The Pride Week Blitz program is a signature cleanup program created by PalmettoPride to assist counties with volunteer recruitment, litter pickups and awareness building. The Midlands Pride Week was the 15th Pride Week in the state.

PalmettoPride and the USDA Forest Service have planned their annual fall cleanup of the Sumter National Forest. The 2009 fall cleanup will focus on forest land on the Enoree Ranger District in Laurens County. Volunteers are needed to help clean up areas in the forest that contain trash, illegal dumpsites and other de...bris.
The cleanup will start at 8am and end at noon. Gloves, safety vests, trash bags and litter grabbers will be provided. Lunch will be served following the cleanup to all volunteers.

Traveling from I-26, take exit 54.The camp is located 5.2 miles east of I-26 on Hwy 72.
Traveling west, the camp is located 9.5 miles from the Whitmire traffic light on HWY 72

Keep the Midlands Beautiful and PalmettoPride have teamed up to host a weeklong litter pickup blitz! Municipalities, neighborhood associations, community improvement groups, schools and all concerned citizens are invited to organize cleanup activities during the one-week event. There will be challenges for neighborho...ods and schools with prizes for the winners. Cleanup supplies will be provided to all volunteers.
The Pride Week Blitz program is a signature cleanup program created by PalmettoPride to assist counties with volunteer recruitment, litter pickups and awareness building. The Midlands Pride Week will be the 15th Pride Week in the state. More than 28,000 people have participated in past Pride Weeks picking up 525 tons of trash.

Service are looking for volunteers to help with a one day cleanup of the
Sumter
National Forest. The
cleanup will take place on October 24th. The event will last from 8
A.M. until noon and lunch will be provided for the volunteers. All supplies
(bags, gloves, vests, etc.) will be pr...ovided by PalmettoPride. Dress
accordingly for the weather, but it is recommended to wear long pants and close
toed shoes. The meeting place for the event is the Tip Top Hunting Camp.
