(FR) Consacrée au graffiti et au street art, l’exposition Né dans la rue – Graffiti met en lumière l’extraordinaire vitalité d’un mouvement artistique qui a pris son essor dans les rues de New York au début des années 1970 et qui est rapidement devenu un phénomène mondial.

Solidement ancré dans le paysage culturel, le ...graffiti traverse aujourd’hui les domaines des arts plastiques, du design et de la publicité. Pourtant, en dépit de son omniprésence, cette forme d’expression essentiellement illégale continue d’évoluer en périphérie du monde artistique contemporain et les origines et l’histoire de ce courant demeurent peu connues du grand public.
Cette exposition s’efforce de tracer les contours d’un territoire vaste et complexe, qui englobe aujourd’hui quantité de techniques, d’idées et de courants différents.

(EN) Devoted to graffiti and street art, the exhibition Born in the Streets—Graffiti will bring to light the extraordinary expansion of an artistic movement that developed in the streets of New York in the early 1970s to rapidly become a world-wide phenomenon.

Today, graffiti has entered the cultural mainstream, crossing over to the realms of studio art, design and advertising. Yet despite its immense popularity, this essentially illegal activity continues to evolve at the periphery of the contemporary art world, its origins and evolution little-known to the general public.
