Parkes and Districts Landcare Over 20 people attended the Family Fun Day and Waterwise Gardening on Saturday 7th August, 2010. The photos show helpers young and old getting involved in the spirit of it all. The day was made possible through the support of Parkes Shire Council and employee-John Nyman, as well as Don and Jenny from Green Parkes Nurse...ry and with sponsorship from North Parkes Mine.
Local Landcarers Bill Archer, Jacque Abbott and Margot Jolly were also there to lend a hand.
There are several more sociable Landcaring activities planned for the not to distant future.

          National Landcare forum Adelaide 23-25 March 2010This Forum was attended By Parkes and Districts Project Officer and LachlandCare Officer Gerald Carnie and Vice Chair Bill Archer.

          The purpose of the attendance was to have regional represent...ation at the Forum, assess the operation to get ideas on conducting the Forum at Parkes

          The Forum was conducted over 3 days. Participants had the opportunity to register on the 22 March between 6.30 and 8.30 pm at this session refreshments and nibblies were available. The registration desk was manned by a contracted company. A bag containing Forum information and items such as drink bottles etc was given to participants. The bags were not sufficient on the morning registration with participants being asked to come back to the reception desk at lunchtime. The first day was 14 hr duration including the Gala dinner. The day session consisted of sixteen speakers
          * Four on the opening session which went overtime before 10.30.
          * Four on the Facing the challenge
          * Three on Landcaring Community in action. (David Cusack Harden Murrumburra was a speaker).
          * Four on Landcare Partnerships

          The Gala dinner was opened at 7.30 about 1.5 Hours after the close of the day session.

          The Forum had six hundred and fifty participants and the Gala Dinner five hundred and Fifty.
          At the dinner things to watch are no table talk while the Guest speaker is delivering their talk and entertainment not that loud that participants can not carry out conversations if they wish to further network.

          Day two saw a 9.00 start with sessions being held concurrently each session 1.5 hours
          Morning sessions
          New Science- Four speakers
          Building Partnerships- Three speakers
          Urban Landcare- Three speakers.
          Next Generation- Two Speakers

          After the morning sessions there was a two hour session where there were fifty three groups discussion issues of the new proposed frame work and they each presented one main point they considered important in the existing framework or a change proposal. Each group had the opportunity to place their comments on three parts of the framework.
          This was a well organised by the facilitator and kept to a time limit.

          In the afternoon session there were another Four sessions
          * Cutting edge Landcare farming,
          * Community engagement.
          * International Landcare.
          * Coast and marine.

          Sessions attended by Gerald and Bill were Urban landcare, Cutting edge Landcare farming, Community Engagement, International Landcare.

          There was a one hour session at the close “lets get started with questions and answers.

          The Forum finished on time.
          Day three there was the opportunity to go on a choice of field trips at cost to the participant ranging from $80 for a 7 Hour trip to $130 for a 12 hour trip to the Barossa. These trip were
          Northern Hill and Barossa valley
          Central mount lofty ranges
          Feiurieu Peninsula and South Coast
          Lake Alexandria
          Northern Adelaide Plains
          Urban landcare
          Bill attended the Urban lancare which involved a visit to
          Urrbrae Wetlands
          Brown hill Creek Recreational Park
          Living Kaurana Cultural Centre
          Minda Dunes

          The Urrbrae Wetlands presents a sample of sediment ponds and the Culture centre gave an nsite of promoting information to school.

          Gerald attended the Northern Hills and Barossa trip.

          Networking that was carried out was key contact with

          Digital Landcare- Placestories programme-new release April 2010.
          Outcome- free training and presence at and for P&DLC forum

          Outcome- Melissa Whitelaw to be contacted re having banner and flyers at Canberra Award
          Presentation- There will be no exhibitors booths but alternative arrangements can be made.

          Some minor problems associated with the Forum
          Participants did not have an itenary of the Field Tours until they joined the bus.
          Calls for participants to be a bell and not blasting music.
          Not having long sit down sessions as long. Have the opportunity to Q and A speakers.
          Considering the Exhibitors during the sessions on how they can participate.

          What worked
          Information personell wore coloured caps for identification
          All events needing registration have ticket placed in ID wallet prior to registering ie tour tickets, dinner admission.

      Parkes and Districts Landcare

      Parkes and Districts Landcare Community members assisted Parkes and Districts Landcare to plant out a couple of hundred native trees and shrubs supplied by Parkes Shire Council, with tree guards and stakes, T shirts and gloves form Parkes Toyota.
