About Me:
Pat McCrory grew up in Guilford County, North Carolina and is married to Ann Gordon McCrory. He attended Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC, where he served as Student Body President.

Pat graduated from Catawba College in 1978 with a B.A. degree in Political Science/Education. In that same year he received his North Carolina Teaching Degree, and in 2001 Catawba College awarded McCrory with an Honorary Doctorate Degree. McCrory spent 29 years with Duke Energy Corp., serving in various management positions. He is currently a partner with Charlotte-based McCrory & Company.

Pat began his political career in Charlotte in 1989 when he was elected as an At-Large City Council representative. He was reelected in 1991 and 1993, served as Mayor Pro Tem in 1993 and elected Mayor in 1995.

In December 2007, Mayor McCrory became the only Mayor in Charlotte history to be sworn in for a record seventh term.

Mayor McCrory has distinguished himself as a leader in the areas of public safety, economic development, housing and transportation. He has been nationally recognized for his leadership in developing Charlotte’s 25-year transportation and land-use plan.

In September of 2001, McCrory was called upon by President Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to serve on the Homeland Security Advisory Commission. He served in that role until January of 2009.

Mayor McCrory has also testified in front of Congress six times on issues ranging from government efficiency to protecting our environment.
