Paul J. Katrich Dear Linda, Thank you for the vote of confidence. I might be induced to compose something, but one battle at a time. I place a lot of weight on your opinions.

Paul J. Katrich Dear Doug and Brad, you both make terrific points, and they are more helpful than you know. There was great aesthetic incest between the potteries, and I'm surprised how many misconceptions persist about process, even among advanced collectors. I am often dismayed at how little young potters are taught about history or techniques which are fundamental to the art. Please share your ideas with me often.

Paul J. Katrich I am honored to be presenting a lecture at the Arts & Crafts Conference in January. I would be very grateful for ideas and suggestions connected to the title: "Secrets From the Masters; Inside Arts & Crafts Pottery Glazes". PLEASE tell me what you'd like to hear.

I've often found it interesting that while Rookwood seemed to be in the lead on discovering new glaze formulas, the other Ohio companies in Zanesville were always quick to copy. I was under the impression these glaze formulas were guarded like state secrets, so I wonder how the info leaked out.

Another thought: Is there still as much ... Read Moreexperimentation going in with respect to finding new glazes today as there was make in the A&C period. When I spoke to Rebecca Harvey, a fine arts prof at Ohio State, she said contemporary students think it's all been discovered and they focus more on form and decoration over glaze.

Paul J. Katrich Pottery Show Columbus was a pleasant experience. Unlike Zanesville, it's a pleasure to have decent restaurants, running water, and clean sheets. I choose civilization every time. I wish Arnie and Barbara every success for its continuation.

Paul J. Katrich It may sound ridiculous, but I am bringing a grand total of seven vessels to the Columbus Show. The last of these emerged from the fire this morning, and they are of pretty extraordinary quality, including at least one genuine "masterpiece" entitled "Glacier Bay". If you wish an example, please see me at the event without delay...seven pots won't last long.

Paul J. Katrich Down to the wire as usual, I just pulled three handsome vessels finished from the kiln. These will debut at the Columbus Pottery Show next weekend. Hopefully more are soon to follow.

Paul J. Katrich I've returned from Manhattan, inspired by a collection of ancient Persian pottery, and by accidentally falling into the events surrounding "Fashion Week". Every clothing store in Soho was offering free drinks and entertainment. Work must now be completed in earnest for the next show (Ohio, Pottery Show Columbus, the first weekend in October). I intend to have some very unique pieces for sale.

Paul J. Katrich I'm heading to New York City tomorrow morning to attend an art opening at the Painting Center in Soho which is guest curated by my friend, Janet Larose. Somewhere in all of my activities, I need spend less time talking about pottery, and more time creating it.

Paul J. Katrich To Fellow Pottery Enthusiasts: I just noted the passing of legendary studio potter, Otto Heino at age 94. He referred to himself as the " oldest and richest potter in the world". There is an article in the July 27th New York Times.

Hello Dennis, I miss you and Barbara. The next Manhattan show will be the New York Ceramics Fair in January. I'm doing Arnie's new event in Columbus in October. I'm also making a sincere effort to have more pots for sale at the Showplace in New York on an ongoing basis. Don't be a stranger, I'm always happy to hear from you.
