I love you Paul. Do you remember me? You were standing outside the Music Box Theater during a performance of DEUCE a few years ago and I literally cornered you to praise you for all your movies...all of them...."Addams Family Values," "In & Out," and yes....."Isn't She Great?" and "Marci X." I also recently read your original script for SISTER ACT ... See Moreafter your hilarious article in the New Yorker last month. Joseph Howard's countless rewrites paled in comparison. Can I treat you to Dunkin' Donuts for coffee some time?! I want to pick your brilliant brain.

Dear Paul-I... See More’m writing to compliment you on your delightful essay SISTER ACT. I’ve been a long-time fan of your work, and I feel fortunate that we live in an age where we “fans” can have direct contact with the writers we admire. (I am the best-selling author of the memoir REX AND THE CITY.) I laughed reading your essay; I was also strangely and unexpectedly moved by your accounts of the nuns in CT. My mother was once a nun, you see, but I know very little about her. She died when I was young, and my father, (an almost-priest), decided that the best way to protect me from grief would be to never, ever speak of her again. Of course, that kind of approach often shrink-wraps a grieving child into a silent world of questions and yearnings. As writers, we never know what kind of impact we'll have on readers; and I don't have enough room in this comment box to describe your HUGE impact on me; but suffice to say you inspired me to find out who my mother was. And WHY she was a nun!
