Peoria Historical Society As we prepare to turn the lights out on "Candlelight" 2009, we will leave you with these images of the beautiful Pettengill-Morron house in all her holiday splendor. The Peoria Historical Society would like to thank the Peoria Garden Club for their beautiful decorations, The Board of Trustees, the PHS staff and all the... volunteers who worked so hard to make Candlelight 2009 a resounding success!

Martin Crane

Martin Crane Festive greetings to you all from here in England! PHS fans are very welcome to have a look at my newly created public page, which brings together some aspects of my research and also features some old photos of the area.

Thomas W. Thompson was a businessman in the East Peoria area of Illinois, United States. He lived at 118 Cole Street with his wife Hazel Appleby. He ran Manhattan Coal and Mining Co in the 20s and 30s and had several business interests in the downtown/four corners area ...of the City. My name is Martin Crane, and I live in England. Thomas Thompson was my great-great uncle. You can either post a message on the Discussions board, or contact me direct if you would like to comment on this public page. My e-mail is: martin.crane@tesco.net Any stories or photos of Tommy and Hazel, the Appleby family, or even just the East Peoria of yesteryear, would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

Peoria Historical Society Candlelight has ended, but there's still at least one large group coming by bus. We love group tours. Typically they're from around the midwest (Ill., Ind., Iowa, Mo.) and include a visit to East Peoria's Festival of Lights. PHS's step-on guides narrate tours including Grand View Drive, downtown, High St. and Moss ...Ave. plus house tours. Out-of-town guests are generally amazed at Peoria's fascinating history.

Peoria Historical Society The Journal Star's Webcast of their visit to Pettengill-Morron House is online at http://www.pjstar.com/entertainment/x1669484954/River-City-Roundup-44-Pettengill-Morron-House . Sunday afternoon from 2-4 is the last session of Candlelight 2009. Just because there's a casket in the attic doesn't mean that the house is haunted ... do you think?

Peoria Historical Society The East Peoria Times-Courier's Dec. 2 edition carries a page one story about Candlelight at Pettengill-Morron which begins tomorrow. The online version doesn't include the two large additional photos that show some of the decorated rooms. So, you need to visit the house to see for yourself. And share the experience with children.
