Montana Rep returns to the Heymann with its dramatic staging of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. This classic tale of honesty, integrity and courage is as timely today as it was when it emerged 50 years ago. Set in a fictional southern town, its colorful characters--including the widowe...d attorney Atticus Finch and the reclusive Boo Radley--are unforgettable.
This presentation of To Kill A Mockingbird is funded in part, by a grant from the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Louisiana Division of the Arts.

The Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (PASA) and the Mall of Acadiana are partnering to host a musical instrument drive, in support of PASA’s Play It Again musical instrument recycling program. The drive will take place from 1-4 p.m.on Friday, August 7 and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 at the Mall of Acadiana Center... Court. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive written documentation of their gift.
PASA needs 100 instruments including, flutes, saxophones, clarinets, trumpets and trombones. All of the instruments collected during this drive will be used by middle school students whose families are unable to afford a band instrument.
"What most people don’t realize is if a musical instrument tucked away in a closet, on a shelf or under a bed, over time the instrument deteriorates to the point that it is no longer of use.” says PASA's Community Relations Director Apiyo Obala. “The Play it Again program is a valuable asset to all schools that participate and, with continued instrument and donations from the community, these band programs will continue to have a positive influence on a child’s life.”
Play It Again, which has been providing instruments for local students since its inception in 2004, accepts gently used instruments donated by area residents, reconditions those instruments, and then donates them to local middle schools. Band directors and school officials identify eligible students and match theses students with instruments. When the program was first started, PASA identified local schools in need of assistance and created the Play It Again program as a way to provide students in need with the opportunity to explore the joy of playing music.
PASA Executive Director, Jacqueline Lyle says, "Being in the band gives children a sense of belonging to something positive, something that they can take with them through high school and develop a talent that can later help them earn college scholarships." Lyle continues, “Band programs teach self-discipline, self-respect, respect for others, creative problem solving and exact physical, mental and emotional demands of students,” she explains. “What better use of instruments that are not being used than to put them in the hands of someone who wants to join a school band.”
In the past two years, the program has expanded to include schools in surrounding parishes and requests from area band directors have increased as a result of more students wanting to be a part of school music programs. Enrollment in band programs doubled last year, as the public school student population increased. PASA continues to accept instruments year-round in an effort to meet the growing demand from schools.
The Play It Again Musical Instrument recycle program receives sponsorship support from Chevron and the Pinhook Foundation.
The value of donated instruments is tax-deductible, and all donors receive written documentation of their gifts. Cash donations to help defray the cost of repairs to Play It Again instruments are also accepted. To donate a musical instrument, make a monetary contribution or offer support in some other way, call the PASA office at (337) 237-2787. To learn more about PASA go to www.pasa-online.org
