Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse Had a bit of a long weekend which was nice. Looking at some drainage quotes today and have nearly finished turning one of our crossings to turf from sand. Sand and gravel base gone, soil back in its place, turf on tomorrow. Should be a big improvement. Colin McCrea Rally went well and Amanda had good time at Wedding Fair. Off to York for RCA Forum tomorrow. Minus ten on the Richter scale, might have to make waves.

Perth Racecourse Our Conference and Banqueting bookings are now becoming more and more regular and today we are hosting a Rural Development Conference for the Government. Much to my amusment the Unuin Jack we had flying for the race meeting yesterday was deemed inappropriate for the occasion and we were asked to replace it with the Saltire! They tell me the Concervative vote is gaining ground in this area, was this wise move?

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse It's all over for another year. I am very tired, it has all been a bit stressful for reasons you need not know about. Great to end on a good note, big crowds, a great atmosphere and all horses and jockeys home safe and sound. he hard work starts now getting new clients in for next year and putting the buzz into fourteen fixtures. thank goodness it is still fun and a challenge.

Rebecca Looks like you've got a good card, great support and some classic Perth racing: am most envious, wish I was with you all. Have a fabulous couple of days. The Angel. x

Perth Racecourse Derek dug deep into his reserves and then deep into our heavy clay soil to expose the damage. Donald went off to Dundee to get the spare parts needed and all was fixed by 3pm when watering commenced. One week ago we were worried about the ground being too heavy, now we have had to water, I guess that is the Scottish weather at the moment. Forecast is now set fair and some great racing beckons.

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse It's all a bit hectic today, declarations morning are always frantic. Phones never stop, grouind is okay, as usual some want rain some want sun, cant please them all. Bit of a drama yesterday as the ring water main blew. If you were standing on that spot the earth would have moved for you, thankfully no one was! Derek dug deep into .....

Perth Racecourse I went down to Doncaster yesterday to have lunch with indutry shakers and movers. Very long train journey and late fro lunch but worth the trouble. Not sure how many people thought it was worth seeing me but I made the most of it, had a good lunch to. Met CE of Racecoruse Media Group, opposite camp to us, which was interesting. Owner of Ffos Las is very confident of their future. Dry here again, course looking better

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse The sun has come out today and we have seen blue sky for the first time this month. 60mm of rain so far, so dont want any more. The sunshine has meant the phones have been busy and bookings now coming in fast, a lot of our facilities are full. Nigel Twiston Davies and Philip Hobbs are gearing up some good horses to come up so with luck we will have some great racing. Interest in next years April festival continues.

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse Thank goodness the sun is out today and there is a drying wind, I can relax a little. The course is actually dry enough to get the spiker on to it and I missed church yesterday as in all the stress I had left my ignition on. That is my excuse anyway, thank you thank you thank you for some drying conditions. Tickets going out today with some confidence, meeting only two weeks and it looks like being a good one.

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse Its been a bad week, the only dry day I spent down a drain it has been raining ever since, should have stayed down the drain. However reasons to be cheerful, its Friday today and I intend to stop worrying about the weather and have a nice weekend. Mind you last night I had a dream -nightmare- that the grass was a foot long and the course was too wet to get on with the mower. Shame the retirement ages is now 70!

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse In case you were worried or perhaps hoped I would not come out the other end I have successfully negotiated our pipe. Hands and knees at one point, cobwebs galore it was an interesting exercise. If nothing else I found out why the bubble and float did not complete the journey! Cable will now be pulled through by the string I have laid,,hope the string does not break....dont want to have to go down again!

Perth Racecourse

Perth Racecourse With torch and waders I intend to walk into the unknown all in the cause of laying a television cable down to one of our Starts and of course saving some money. Spiders permitting, there are thousands of those, I should come back safe. A good diversion from the office desk. If I return I will tell you about it later.

Bit of a do in the Pres& Journal today, never like personal interviews but it seems to have come out without sounding too awful. First worrry out of the way. Rain again today, I fear the Jet Stream is right over us or still below us and we are geting all the weather. Sligt diversion plannned today as I want to take a l...ong bit of string down the pipe that runs under most of our buildings. Brought the waders in.......Read More

The rain has set in for the day but course has now been spiked so should filter away evenly. No sign of summer returning yet. Our rebranding exercise last winter has done some good as crowds ahve been up all season. We now plan to focus over the winter on how best we can raise the bar for our corporate parties and give... better value for money for all our visitors. It's a good challenge to have and I look forward to itRead More
