Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Twenty Convention Scholarships Offered to Advisors! Any advisor who has not previously attended pre-Convention events may apply for a scholarship covering Convention and Honors in Action Academy registration fees for the advisor and for one chapter officer or member. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Nominate Advisors for ACA Secretary
Chapter advisors are invited to submit nominations for 2010-2011 Secretary for the Association of Chapter Advisors (ACA). Four advisors will be on the ballot, one from each of the Society’s four Divisions. Over the next three years the advisor elected to serve as Secretary will automa...tically move up to ACA Vice Chairman and eventually Chairman.
All advisors are members of the ACA, a non-dues paying organization that meets annually at each Convention. ACA Officers give feedback to the Headquarters Staff on a variety of Society issues and programs. They also assist in planning the program for the annual ACA meeting and may be called upon to serve on various committees and act as facilitators for advisor enrichment.
Nominations for ACA Secretary may be submitted through February 12, 2010 to any current ACA Officer:

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society With almost two weeks of reporting remaining, 10 Phi Theta Kappa Regions have reached their 2009 Pinnacle Award goals, and 591 chapters have received one or more Pinnacle Award scholarships!
Kansas and Texas are the latest regions to achieve a 10 percent membership increase over 2009, and a $500 Pinnacle Award. To date,... $105,570 in Pinnacle Scholarships has been earned by chapters.
Chapters may earn up to five scholarships of $45 each (covering International fees), based on increasing membership over the previous year in 5 percent increments. Check your chapter or region’s Pinnacle Progress at http://www.ptk.org/pinnacle/progress/

Phi Theta Kappa constituencies have raised more than $296,000, 82 percent of the $350,000 needed to meet the second Hites Scholarship Challenge and create a second $1 million scholarship endowment.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Community college students in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean are invited to enter an essay contest on the subject "Why obtaining a four-year degree on my community college campus would be (or is currently) important to me."
The contest is sponsored by the Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA).... The winner will receive a $1,000 award, and an all-expense paid trip to the CCBA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, in March. The winner's college will also receive a $1,000 award. Contest entries are due February 5, 2010.

Following the format popularized by “Playing for Change,” a collaborative performance of the song “What a Wonde...rful World” will be created.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Eight Society Regions Reach 2009 Pinnacle Award Goals
The Florida, Middle States, Minn-Wi-Kota, New Mexico, Rocky Mountain-Cascade and Tennessee Regions have met their 2009 Pinnacle Award goals and will each receive a $500 stipend. Eight regions total have earned Pinnacle Awards – Georgia and Indiana were previously ann...ounced.
All regions with induction increases of 10 percent over the previous year will receive Pinnacle Awards. Chapters may earn up to five scholarships of $45 each (covering International fees), based on increasing membership over the previous year in 5 percent increments.

New inductees must be reported to Headquarters by noon Central Time on December 31 to be counted for Pinnacle Awards - http://www.ptk.org/pinnacle
Also, the final Five Star Chapter Development updates are due December 31. The Five Star Plan now operates on ...a calendar year, and chapters’ final Five Star Levels will be based on the December 31 update. Report your chapter's Five Star Progress at http://www.ptk.org/fivestar/updateform.do
For those chapters entering the 2010 Hallmark Awards competition to complete their Five Star Level Requirements, Headquarters will fill in this activity for you once your chapter’s Hallmark entries have been received.

A program of United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program - www.clscholarship.org/ - will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in 13 critical need foreign languages for s...ummer 2010. The online application for CLS Program awards is now available at https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=CAORC and the deadline to apply will be December 18, 2009.
The selection process will be administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The CLS Program will be administered by CAORC and the American Councils for International Education.
