Phil Steele

Phil Steele It is the start of awards season. This week I have 3 awards conference calls and the conference call for the FWAA (Football Writers) All American team. We vote on the defense this Sunday and the Offense next Sunday. The first call is for the Mackey Award as we chop it to the top 8 this Thursday. Your nominees please for the top TE and then the Defensive All Americans.

If CJ Spiller doesn't make multiple AA teams, then the SW should lose their voting ability and 6 year olds should take their place.

rudolph big bravaro type rugged TE. has speed and can get open against any safety or LB. also a very good blocker. he also excels on screens unlike any TE in nation.

Dennis Pitta, BYU, he's always double-covered. Plus he does great blocking down field. Oh, and he's as clutch as they get.

TE's:

Pitta - BYU - Major focal point of really good passing offense. Defese always tries to take him away. 41 rec, 568 yds, 5 TD's

Cody Slate - Marshall - A top receiving weapon on a surprising decent offensive team. Almost 200 career receptions so he's been good for a long time. 48 rec, 582 yds, 4 TD's... See More

Aaron Hernandez - Florida - Almost like another WR out there. Good speed and moves for a TE. Very tough matchup to cover. 43 rec, 541 yds, 2 TD's.

Dorin Dickerson - Pitt - 10 TD's this year! A major force in the red zone for a good Pitt offense. 39 rec, 450 yds, 10 TD's.

Ed Dickson - Oregon - Big 6'5 frame is always open in that offense it seems. Been a focre in the Pac10 for three years. 34 rec, 464 yds, 4 TD's.

Have a good week.

Dennis Pitta for BYU is a 3rd down conversion machine and the main reason BYU is leading the Nation in 3rd down conversion rate. Pitta was robbed last year but he is still the best TE in the nation.

Dickerson has the best stats but he doesn't really play as a tight end. But the hands down winner here is Pitta. He's been a go to guy on a top offense and should've won this already last year.

For TE, Garrett Graham needs to be in the discussion. He has 30 receptions, 342 yards, and 4 TD's, and he's a pretty good blocker too when he needs to be.

For Defensive AA, Earl Thomas needs to be near the top. He already has 6 interceptions, 2 of which he returned for TD's.
