Ghost Hunting 101 is the third in a series of collaborations between Cliveden and the “Free Spirit Paranormal Investigators.” Visitors will be treated to a ghost hunting workshop and live paranormal investigation of the Concord School House and Upper Burying Ground.

The workshop will be hosted by the “Free Spirit Paran...ormal Investigators” in Cliveden’s historic Carriage House. It will address a wide range of paranormal topics including the history of Ghost Hunting, Electronic Voice Phenomena, and psychic protection.

After the workshop, attendees will gain hands-on experience by conducting a live paranormal investigation at the Concord School House and Upper Burying Ground. Located down the street from Cliveden, the Concord School House was built in 1775 as Germantown’s first English language school. The School House occupies a corner of the Upper Burying Ground, one of the oldest cemeteries in Germantown and a site where over 50 Revolutionary War Soldiers are buried.

Join Cliveden on Sunday, August 9 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for “A Short Course on Beer.” The program will feature a lecture by beer scholar Lynn Hoffman followed by a book signing. A reception featuring samples of beer from Cliveden’s homebrew club, The Cliveden Brewers, will conclude the evening.

Price is $35 per p...erson for the event and includes a copy of Mr. Hoffman’s book, The Short Course on Beer, as well as samples of the Cliveden Brewers’ finest homebrews. Pretzels and other snacks will be available during the beer tasting.

Seating is limited and reservations are recommended to ensure seating and a copy of the book. Tickets will be sold at the door depending on space availability.

Do you believe in Ghosts? Do you hear banging, footsteps or voices in your home? Are you really seeing things or is that just your imagination?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, join us at Cliveden on June 13th from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm for Ghost Hunting 101. Teaming up with “Free Spirit Paranormal Investiga...tors,” Cliveden will offer a workshop and live paranormal investigation for ghost enthusiasts of all ages.

Addressing a wide range of paranormal topics including the history of Ghost Hunting, EVP theory and psychic protection, the Free Spirit Paranormal Investigators will discuss the do’s-and-dont’s of paranormal investigation.

After the workshop, attendees will gain hands-on experience with paranormal equipment provided by Free Spirit. The group will investigate the Chew Mansion and Upsala, two of the buildings on Cliveden’s property that are said to contain spirits from the Battle of Germantown.

This program is open to all ages. Admission is $20.00 per person. RSVP is necessary as space is very limited.

Cliveden, located in Historic Germantown (Freedom’s Backyard), was the site of the 1777 Battle of Germantown. Numerous American and British soldiers died valiantly at Cliveden during the war for American independence. Some say spirits from the Battle of Germantown still roam Cliveden. Cliveden of the National Trust invites you to afternoon of jazz with the Sassy, Barbara Walker on Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 3-6 p.m., in the carriage house on the Cliveden estate. A donation of $20.00 is requested and light refreshments will be provided.

Hailing from Philadelphia the city of brotherly love and sist...erly affection, Barbara Walker’s name exemplifies the word “excitement.” Her career is rich and varied, marked by performances and recordings with the finest artist and musicians, “Pieces Of a Dream,” Grover Washington, Patti Labelle, Lionel Hampton, Natalie Cole and the list continues.

Barbara went onto record several other songs with the group. She later caught the attention of the producers for the long running PBS educational TV Show “Sesame Street.” Barbara recorded a song for the show that teaches its youth viewer ship the consonants “B”, “D” and “M.” In addition in 2001 Barbara.s voice shared the screen with the legendary Robert DeNiro in the song “Here Comes The Morning” featured in the blockbuster film “The Score” starring Mr. DeNiro and the great Marlon Brando.
