What's Coming Up!: UPDATE ON ADMISSION PRICES: Admission to The Academy of Natural Sciences will increase starting June 1.
•Admission for an adult will change from $10 per person to $12.
•Admission for children ages 3 through 12, seniors ages 65 years and older, college students and military personnel will change from $8 per person to $10.
•The additional charge for "Butterflies!" will remain at $2.
•Admission for children under 3 and for Academy Members remains free.
•Group rates remain unchanged.
Barbara Ceiga, Vice President for Public Operations, said the new rate structure would bring the Academy more in line with rates charged by other area museums.
The last time the Academy raised the admission was in 2005 when the adult fee was increased by $1. The last time the rate for children increased was in 2001 when it was raised by 50 cents.

Science on Tap continues on Monday, June 8 with Janet Monge, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wagner Free Institute of Science. Don't miss the Academy's own Dr. Ted Daeschler for the July event.
"Science on Tap" is a new collaboration between The Academy of Natural Sciences, the American Philosophical Society Museum, the Chemical Heritage Foundation, and the Wagner Free Institute of Science to make science more accessible to the public. Scientists and experts from each institution will present a topic and kickoff a group discussion in an informal setting at National Mechanics Bar and Restaurant, 22 North Third Street. “Science On Tap” will take place on the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. with a different speaker each month.
In July, Daeschler will present “Cold Hard Science: Fossil Discoveries in the Canadian Arctic and the Origin of Limbed Animals.” Stay tuned for more information.........

Geckos are among the most adaptable lizards, with more 1,000 species that have conquered habitats from balmy tropical beaches and lush rainforests to frigid mountain slopes and parched deserts. See more than 75 different species at the Academy's upcoming exhibit "Geckos — Tails to Toepads” opening May 30!
From May 30-Sept. 7, 2009, live geckos will invade The Academy of Natural Sciences in “Geckos—Tails to Toepads.” The exhibit introduces visitors to the remarkable diversity of these lizards with engaging interactive components and live geckos in lush, naturalistic habitats. Geckos range from shadowy nighttime hunters with unbelievable camouflage to neon-colored nectar eaters that scamper around in daylight. Hear them, see them, experience them up close and in person.
“Geckos—Tails to Toepads” was created by Peeling Productions at Clyde Peeling's REPTILAND.
