"Barbara was 64 years old when her lung cancer returned during the spring of 2008. Her doctor prescribed Tarceva, a new chemotherapy. However, the Oregon Health Plan sent Barbara a letter stating they would not pay to treat her. The government officials offered an alternative plan: They would pay for either hospice or physician-assisted suicide.

Dr. Walter Shaffer, a spokesman for Oregon’s Division of Medical Assistance Programs, explained the realities of the government-run Oregon Health Plan:... See More

“We can’t cover everything for everyone. Taxpayer dollars are limited for publicly funded programs. We try to come up with policies that provide the most good for the most people.”

Does any thinking person actually think u.s. government health care will be any different than Oregon, Tennessee, or Massachusetts government health care?

Add to that - high unemployment means FEWER tax dollars for the government to dole out - because FEWER people are paying into the tax treasury, folks!!!!!

Americans are among the most compassionate people on Earth. We all want our fellow citizens to have access to quality health care. Who argues with that sentiment? In this context, government compassion sounds so noble.

Sounding "noble" is what some people like - being noble is another concept driven home to the world by Jesus Christ! It is "love in action", the Good Samaritan type of love.

"....We all want our fellow citizens to have access to quality health care. Who argues with that sentiment? In this context, government compassion sounds so noble.

But the fact remains: Whoever pays holds the power to choose. There lies the rub.... See More

Though often missed, the fundamental question at the center of today's health care debate is: Who should control the personal and complex process of medical decision-making? Patients and their physicians? Or Washington? "

An article well worth reading. :)

They are thinking that if you had died you wouldn't be wasting "their" money. I heard Pelosi respond to why she didn't favor tax reductions: because that robs the general fund of money she needs to help America, she said. That is how they think.

More Americans (50%) now believe it isn't the government’s responsibility to make sure all Americans have healthcare coverage than think it is (47%). This marks the first time this decade when a plurality hasn't favored the gov't responsibility view.

Finally, some are beginning to see what made this country great. It was NOT standing in soup lines waiting for a HANDOUT/BAILOUT! It was not getting what you cannot pay for then and there! I can really live with 3 pairs of shoes - Yep! I can live without having the latest techno stuff - YEP! I CAN WAIT!

It is however their job to stop the crooks robbing Medicare if they know there is 500 billion of waste fraud and abuse, not rob it themselves. It is their job to enact real tort reform to stop ambulance chasing lawyers. It is their job to provide a temporary safety net to those unable to help themselves, and it is their job to stop mega-banks robbing the national treasury and their job to stop America's treasure going overseas with the jobs. None of that requires a socialist state.
