Piers Paul Read is an internationally renowned author, both in fiction and non-fiction. His most widely known work is Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, though his fiction is widely followed and has won several awards. He's also the official biographer of Sir Alec Guinness.

Read received his BA and MA from Cambridge, and was awarded Ford and Harkness fellowships early in his career, leading up to his notable success with Monk Dawson (1969). Since then his career has included works of... (read more)

Read is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a member of the Council of the Society of Authors.

Read is a practicing Catholic, and is currently Vice President (formerly President) of the Catholic Writers' Guild of England and Wales. He correctly predicted the election of Joseph Ratzinger to the papacy, and has commented regularly in the media on the state of the Catholic Church.

He is a husband, and a father of four.
