Planted Aquarium Central
Myriophyllum mattogrossense is one of the lesser known South American species of a popular genus. Better known species such as Parrots feather, red and green foxtail, milfoil, come from north America and have become nuiscance plants. Mattogrossense does not readily adapt to cold water which makes it unlikely to become... a nuiscance in this country. The plant has a nice texture and form that looks outstanding growing in tight groups. Growth is easy to control by pruning and ajusting light. Intense light dramatically increases the growth rate, and the plant appears to prefer slightly acidic water. The true mattogrossense is always green. What used to be called mattogrossense red is now properly reffered to as M. tuberculatum. Some Asian plant farms still use the wrong name. Mattogrossense is now being cultivated commercially in the USA and no longer needs to be imported. I currently have 50 bunches available.Read More

Echinodorus vesuvius, this rare plant is not grown commercially by growers in the USA. It is traded amoung hobbyists, and I have managed to get about 50 plants from a hobbyist. It is a grass like sword plant, but it twists and curls somewhat like vallisneria as it grows straigt up. The difference between this plant a...nd Vallisneria is that the width of the leaf and the amount of the leaf "curl" can vary greatly on the same plant. Mature plants can have leaves 1/2 an inch to 1.5 inches wide on the same plant. and even one leaf can be narrow for a few inches and then become twice as wide. It is easy to grow, reproduces readily by runners, and the maximum height is around 12 inches. It is known as the "twisty sword'.Read More

Florida Aquatic Nurseries, the largest producer of aquarium plants in the USA, is shortly releasing Cryptocoryne parva to the market for the first time in the USA. This plant has always only been available from importers, and the plants are usually small and sporatically available at best...
