Polar Bears International News from Cape Churchill: "It is a snowy day here at the Cape, the temperatures are still mild--no nip in the air, no need for gloves, quite sad. The topic of discussion is how warm it has been. The bay appears to be a bit more frozen, but it is really just a thin covering. The ice coverage is way behind for the season, useless for the bears."

i can't believe that our world leaders don't show the slightest bit of concern, actions speak louder than words, talk talk talk and no action.

Polar Bears International From hearing studies to insights on denning behavior, zoos play an important role in research with implications for wild bears. Join us for this "Tundra Short" by John Shier of 45 North.

PBI has funded several scientific studies with zoo bears that would be impossible to conduct on polar bears in the wild. These studies play a key role in polar bear conservation. Field Biologist Evan Richardson explains, speaking from the shores of Hudson Bay during the polar bear migration.

Thanks for your comment, Jelle. We're proud of the fact that our field biologists work closely with zoos on needed research. Our hearing study is a good example of that collaboration. The results will help set parameters to protect denning bears in the wild from industrial disturbances.

Polar bears face a new threat besides melting ice — male grizzly bears are moving into their territories, competing for food and are even mating with their females.

It hurts to see how humans are affecting the lives of every other being negatively. The main reason being too many humans consuming too many resources causing too much pollution and waste. We should seriously find ways to reduce the population and promote "reduce, reuse and recycle".Small steps in everyday life to reduce one's own pollution might help in a big way someday. IT STARTS WITH ONESELF.

Raabia Hawa saw this and the bit towards the end shocked me! i know its probably not real, but this is a musician who could possibly(and i hope to god not) set trends. i am posting it here hoping polar bears international can raise awareness on it, maybe raise a voice, and possibly even get her to take down the video, or support p...oar bears international. it cant go unnoticed- the last thing we need is some popstar glamorizing fur and wildlife products!!! good luck!

Hi Raabia, We agree with you that it's disturbing to see a polar bear rug/fur glamorized ... but the good news is that it's illegal to trade in polar bear parts. Thanks for posting and for voicing your concern.

Hi Cat, It IS possible for grizzlies and polar bears to mate and this is expected to happen more as the Arctic climate changes. We've posted a follow-up article on this subject above.

We use insulated ss cups for coffee & water and use reusable shopping bags. I plan errands close together, keep the tires inflated on the car, get tune ups on schedule for better gas milage. We added more insulation to the house. I grow vegetables and fruits, amend the soil with coffee grounds & otherkitchen scraps; sometimes snag neighbors' bagged leaves for my garden & compost bin. As they burn out, we replace light bulbs with CFL.
