One of the reasons why I love writing about (modern) history is the power of context. Mention a hi-top fade and we’ll think of Public Enemy, Bush Sr. and Arsenio Hall. Show a jukebox and its hopstoch dresses, James Dean and drag races. It’s all symbolism and memory.

Let’s cross The Pond and stop in on our French neighbors. I know over here in the US we don’t pay too much attention to them except to make fun of them (which is sad, since they did give us the statue of liberty, people).
