Poptology Damon Speaks: The YouTube phenomenon has made every popular speech fodder for a music "remix". (See Christian Bale's freakout, Bill O'Reilly's meltdown, etc.) Here's a recent gem based on a still-missed comedy show.

Poptology Damon Speaks: Music videos don't have to be elaborate, million-dollar affairs. In fact, the better ones today focus on eliciting a particular feeling.

One of the reasons why I love writing about (modern) history is the power of context. Mention a hi-top fade and we’ll think of Public Enemy, Bush Sr. and Arsenio Hall. Show a jukebox and its hopstoch dresses, James Dean and drag races. It’s all symbolism and memory.

Poptology Nik Speaks: It's okay to like bands that most people don't. Don't be afraid to like what you like. Kurt likes Linkin Park, and here's one that I like..

Source: bit.ly
Kurt wrote a few posts back about his liking of Linkin Park, a choice that from a critical perspective was probably a bit questionable. For what it’s worth, I actually dig LP as well, so I can’t say anything. ...

Poptology Nik Speaks: Feeling down? You need 400 mL of Italian-style eurodance piano. Stat.

Source: bit.ly
It’s June in NYC. The back of my neck should be sunburned to the color of a Coke can. Instead, it’s as gray and gloomy as a 1981 Cure single outside and I’ve feeling somewhat in the dumps. The only solution? Eurodance.

Poptology Damon Speaks: Why Snap Is Better Than Chill Rob G

Source: blog.poptology.com
Few songs from two decades ago (!) still get me as excited as Snap!’s “The Power”. Both a time capsule and a timeless party starter, the song is the epitome of rap power pop. The video is just as iconic.

Poptology Nik Speaks: Ever hear a band for the first time and they blew your doors off? M83 just murdered me.

Source: bit.ly
Every now and then, I find a new group that totally blows my doors off. I’ve been getting into a lot of “indietronica” lately, which is exactly what that horrific portmanteau would lead you to believe. ...

Poptology Shawn Speaks: Truth

With nearly three full decades of hits,Depeche Mode is one of the hottest electronic groups of all time. And this song is one of their best. Tell me you don’t roll down the windows and crank this one up when it comes on your car radio? Of course you do. From 1990’sViolator, “Policy of Truth.”

It’s time for some rock music, but it doesn’t come from one of the normal places. No, this one comes from the anime wonderland of the Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack. I can’t even go in to the amount of amazing songs that have been put together in the name of Cowboy Bebop. ...

Poptology Kurt Speaks: Forget French fries... Go for French Mix Tapes.

Source: bit.ly
Let’s cross The Pond and stop in on our French neighbors. I know over here in the US we don’t pay too much attention to them except to make fun of them (which is sad, since they did give us the statue of liberty, people).
