Awards and Recognition
Conde Nast Traveler Gold List 2008
Best Places to stay in the World
"Outstanding service and beautiful decor" are highlights of this 2006 property near Washington Park. Art Deco, Art Moderne, and classic Hollywood influence the design; "the lobby has a huge screen with changing photos from the golden era of film." Framed stills in rooms accompany mahogany nightstands, apple-green draperies, and Lucite lamps. Order a whiskey sour in the dimly lit Driftwood Room, where "you expect Cary Grant to walk in."
Conde Nast Traveler Hot List 2007
Best Places to stay in the World
"The beloved if down-at-the-heels former Mallory Hotel has emerged from a top-to-bottom transformation with a visage—inspired by Hollywood's Golden Age—worthy of the hotel's new moniker. In the lobby, a dramatic video wall displays a rotating cycle of vintage film stills, while the halls of each floor and the walls of rooms are lined with luminous black-and-white prints paying homage to fabled auteurs (Hitchcock is on two, Fellini and Bergman are on six). The Driftwood Room bar, a noirish local legend, remains largely preserved in its original cedar-paneled skin and still draws a hip crowd. In the 130 guest rooms are theatrical green floor-to-ceiling draperies, buttery leatherette headboards, Art Deco Lucite lamps that feel elegant without going over the top, and HDTV flat-panel televisions. Forgo the disappointing restaurant, Gracie's, in favor of the nearby Pearl District's choice of notable tables."

CitySearch says: "Originally built in 1912, the former Hotel Mallory was reborn as the Hotel deLuxe in 2006. The refurbished lobby is both modern and reminiscent of the hotel's 10-decade history. The sumptuous lobby features golden carpet, art deco sharkskin lamps and mid-century rotary phones on the tables. Large black-and-white movie stills line the hallways. The guestrooms, painted in sunny goldenrod, feature HDTVs, Wi-Fi, MP3 docking stations and play lists, bathrobes and menu of pillow choices."
