Breast self-exam (BSE) is a tool that may help you learn what is
normal for you. BSE involves looking at and feeling your breasts. If
you notice any changes in your breast, do not wait. Report any changes
to your doctor or nurse right away. Women who practice BSE should also
be sure to get mammograms and clinical breast ex...ams at the appropriate
age. BSE should not be substituted for these screening tests.

Please urge your senators to support the EARLY Act! When breast cancer occurs in women under age
45, it is often detected at later stages, is more likely to be
aggressive, and less likely to be responsive to hormone therapies.
There is a lack of awareness about the risks of breast cancer for young
women and the unique chal...lenges facing young women with breast cancer. This important bill would change that.

A message from Komen's Volunteer Program Manager:
Dear Volunteers,
Many thanks to each and
everyone one of you who contributed your time and efforts to this year’s Health
Expo or Race for the Cure®! Over 41,000 Race participants and volunteers at
Waterfront Park enjoyed the camaraderie, support and celebration of those ...
touched by breast cancer.
Though the final numbers are not in, we expect to
raise over $2 million dollars! 75% of our funds provide grants to local
community agencies in Oregon and SW Washington for education, outreach and life
saving mammograms and 25% fund research that will discover the cures for breast
cancer. Without your help, this would not be possible.
Each year we strive to better
meet the needs of our volunteers so please feel free to communicate any feedback
that you have that will help us make next year's Health Expo and Race a better
experience for you. Thank you again for making this event one of the most
successful in the country! We hope that you will join us again next year on
September 17, 18, and 19, 2010 for the next Health Expo and the Race for the
Cure®!
