We made huge strides forward this year. I know it may seem hard to remember 2009 that way because it ended with the dismal performance of our federal leaders at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen. But, ...

Suresh Fernando What, if any, role does PowerUp envision having in ensuring commitments made at Copenhagen are adhered to? http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0ByJ9wl9qbZEzZjk0ZGExY2MtZTI2ZS00NDYyLTljMGMtYzRiZTk4YTExNTA2&hl=en

by engaging a growing list of Canadians in key political moments we hope to hold both Federal and Provincial governments publicly accountable to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting clean energy.

Great! Have you developed a strategy for engagement!

I would suggest that you develop (if you haven’t already) , a coordinated social media and collaboration strategy that will serve to stimulate and sustain dialogue.

This can be accomplished through systematic use of existing social networking platforms like Facebook. Twitter, Linked In etc. as well as through an attempt to build collaborative infrastructure that connects the groups that PowerUp is already working with.... See More

This infrastructure can either be rolled out using existing community infrastructure like http://www.ning.com/ or http://elgg.org/, or can be fully customized using platforms such as http://drupal.com/

The reason that it makes sense to use a collaborative platform to drive dialogue are:

• You can extend your reach far beyond traditional boundaries
• You can drive dialogue and projects with other organizations
• You can focus the attention of thousands (or more) people on singular issues, projects, processes etc.

The essence of this idea is outlined in this paper that I wrote last year: http://docs.google.com/View?id=dc4gbgsj_25hqc96xt3

Another interesting option would be to leverage an existing platform.

The MIT Center for Collective Intelligence (http://cci.mit.edu/¬) is rolling out the Climate Change Collaboratorium (http://www.climatecollaboratorium.org)

My group (http://mudball.net/openkollab/about-us/¬¬) is talking to them in early January to explore how we can collaborating on rolling this out.

It would be cool to engage the PowerUp community in this if you think it makes sense.
Let me know what you think.

The UN Climate Summit has ended with a so-called “Copenhagen Accord.” The Canadian government seems satisfied but even Barack Obama, its American architect, openly calls it “not enough.” What does it all mean?

Edith Why is Ontario investing billions of dollars into nuclear energy, when we have Lake Ontario to produce enough green power for all? Canada uses more energy than any other country in the world!!! Windmills are everywhere in Europe, I’m not sure why those countries can do it and we can’t. Until then, turn off your lights..., and try to do more for the environment.

Compare to other countries in the world, it seems that we are VERY behind.
