Tama Smith

Tama Smith had the most out of control firing in a long time. Overshot reduction by 100 degrees. Bad reduction equals bad reds. Peeked in the kiln, flashlight in hand... I saw red! Yeah!

Cheryl Planert

Cheryl Planert Didn't know you had a fan page, Tama. I love all your photos--the colors are rich, and of course, your pottery is outstanding!

I've found reds need a long slow cool down, I close the damper but leave the burner ports open. If I block the burner ports my reds get muddy. Some people do a cleansing flame the last part of the firing. I don't do this, I never have. But maybe the open burner ports have the same effect.
also, after you put your kiln in reduction, leave it ... Read Morein reduction. Don't back off then go back in.
And I found
my reds are better if the firing is quick after I put it into reduction. That is to say maybe 6 hours or so between reduction and cone 10. Anything longer my reds tend to fade a bit.
Hope this helps, Dawn. Can I see more pots?

The colors on your hangings reminds me of the Fountian Paint Pot trail in Yellowstone Park. Very nice.
