While I agree that it is our responsibility as drivers to watch for all things on the road that we may come into contact with, I think this story, while egregious and horrible, is definitely behavior in the minority, and putting this forward as anything but that, is self-serving for those on cycles. I find that, as the article mentions, many times ... Read Morearound blind corners, you have 3-4 cyclists wide not paying attention. Cyclists need to own their responsibilities as co-owners of the road, follow all the same laws that apply to them that we must as motorists, and lose the attitude of entitlement to the entire road. I have been stuck in San Francisco traffic during Critical Mass, with cyclists leaning on my car while we are all stuck in traffic and this is ridiculous, and has lead to some heated confrontations on both sides. The thing I like to remind those on cycles is, "We behind the wheel pay registration fees and gas tax to drive on the roads and have just as much right, if not more, than you do to use it." Keep that in mind as I observe you break nearly every traffic law that exists, and get attitude whenever someone gets within 5 feet of you...

I worry for the cyclists, as I have never experienced worse drivers than in Santa Rosa. They can be incredibly dangerous, rude, impatient and careless. And, need I mention the countless red light runners? All I can say is wait 5 seconds after your light turns green before you proceed into the intersection. And I would love to see cyclists bike in single file, navigating around them when doubled up into the lane iis a bit tricky.

Nice that justice is inevitable, if not expensive. It would be nice if the parents had to pony up for the costs of the trial for both sides, as the little pinhead was 17 at the time ...get real, kids (especially teenage boys) exceed the speed limit often, and counting on technology to try to prove that wrong is ludicrous ...especially unproven GPS technology against proven radar technology (wake up Lt. Rude, you if anyone should have known this...)

What a joke, the vehicles should be sold at auction immediatly to help us re-coop some of the cost of supporting these leeches. Or even better just deport them. Some people and their entitlement issues. Is free education, healthcare, and food stamps not enough?
