Remember Marcelo: Calling All Bloggers! Long Island Wins is sponsoring a "Remember Marcelo" blogging event, where they're calling on bloggers from across the country to write a post about slain Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero on Thursday,November 5, or Friday, November 6.
BACKGROUND:This coming Sunday marks the one...-year anniversary of the death of Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero, who was killed by a group ofteens in Patchogue on Nov. 8, 2008. Lucero's attackers told police that they would routinely go "beaner jumping" -- which meant they would hunt down and assault Latinos. One of the defendants said, "I don't go out doing this very often, maybe once a week."
The content of the blog entries is up to the individual bloggers, but they ask that each blogger embed the "Remember Marcelo" badge.

That's what's happening to Jack Barrios, the Iraq war veteran profiled last month by my colleague Teresa Watanabe, whose wife faces deportation because her parent...s brought her to the U.S. illegally from Guatemala when she was 6. Then there's Nicole Hernandez, a white, U.S.-born mother of four, who recently packed up her Ohio family's belongings in a horse trailer and moved with her kids to rural Mexico. You can see her saying goodbye to the U.S. in a series of videos on the Internet."
