In partnership with the Helping Hand Home for foster children in Austin, the Austin chapter of Project H will redesign and renovate two "Quiet Rooms," spaces within the Helping Hand Home in which children who misbeha...ve take "timeouts." The spaces, however, are sterile, even clinical, and offer no interactive experiences for children with behavioral conditions to calm down. Through research investigations into therapeutic uses for textures, objects, light, sound, landscapes, and material, the design team, in close collaboration with Helping Hand Home, will develop and test new concepts for these Quiet Rooms.
While this project is still in progress, this album provides a look into what the Austin chapter is working with and what progress they are making!Read More

Project Name: Furniture for Rural Schools

The repair and improvement of school furniture in rural schools in Mexico. The first part of the project consisted in identifying the specific needs of the pilot school, Luis Donaldo Colosio ...Murrieta. The team found out that the school had a lot of old broken furniture pieces that were not in use but still stored.Then, the chapter team conducted a Repair Brigade to re-utilize the structures of 32 desks and to create new table tops. The brigade was executed over the course of 2 weekends involving the community members (teachers, parents and event some kids that wanted to participate).Read More
