Project Working Mom...and Dads, Too!

Project Working Mom...and Dads, Too!
Originally aired on November 4, 2009 on KTVT-TV in
Dallas/Fort Worth.

"Heather Hererra has spent most of the last 13 years as a stay at home mom raising her girls in Mesquite. She worked in the family business, keeping the books, but always longed for something more. "I felt like a degree could take me places, I really ...didn't have a lot on my resume."

Hererra knew money for college would be tight, so she looked for scholarships. "At my age, it's a little hard to find scholarships that apply to me," she said. "I had mediocre grades in high school."

Then she found eLearners.com. The organization runs Project Working Mom, which awards scholarships for working moms who want to go back to school. "

Wow, I had no idea this video was still circulating anywhere. Two responses so far are from people who were in the audience. I'm not even sure how I was tagged, and how the video showed back up on facebook.

"A woman who's dealt with tragedy has been awarded a scholarship from an unlikely source. A supermodel.

Robin Bucholz wrote an essay nearly a year ago to win the scholarship through eLearners.com as part of Project Working Mom on The Tyra Banks Show.

Nearly eight months later she was contacted -- flown to New York City, ...and awarded her scholarship on air. She says the chance to pursue a new career, is exciting. But it's also bittersweet."Read More

April Davis

April Davis I find it ironic that I needed to live and be a Mom before I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I thought in High school that I would go into art. Now I find myself drawn to Mechanical Engineering. Now all I need to do is get a degree. Problem no money.

I hear you...I first thought this was a hoax when I saw dads were included as well now. For the most part, men have it easy, but for the rare few working fathers like me....trying to find need based scholarships for a man in this country are almost non-existant! I have been looking for 7 years and this is the first one I have found with significant financing. Good luck to whoever gets this, and if I am selected I will do whatever I can to help others.
