Planning on buying a new car? Don't forget to file the Vehicle Transfer Notification on the old car you sell or trade in. You can do it online at www.TxDMV.gov. And now it's free to transfer the license plates from your old car to your new one. Remember that plate number traces to your name.

Ghosts and goblins and your sticker is about to expire! Oh my! If your sticker looks like this, it's time to renew.

Buying a used car or truck? Don't Buy a Wreck. Do a Title Check. See if it has a clean Texas title free on our website http://www.txdmv.gov/protection/buying_vehicle/title_check.htm

Before you buy a used vehicle, obtain the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle you're interested in and run it through Title Check, a consumer protection database provided by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

Just an fyi: Your title comes from the TxDMV. However, title transactions take place at your local county tax office. The states 254 tax offices are our partners, which is why you also register your vehicle there. Counties receive a commission for providing these services. For instance, about a third of your registration fee stays in your home county for local road projects. It's a great deal for taxpayers.

I've paid off my car & received my title from the loan agency. Where do I take the title to remove them as the lienholder?

                • Protect your title, Texas. Indeed, the tax office is where the magic happens. You can locate your county tax office here: http://www.txdmv.gov/wheretogo/tax_offices.htm
